URGENT: Lost data in BaseCamp 4.2.4 for Mac

I have a lot of data in Basecamp (lists with waypoints & routes) as well as folders with lists of waypoints & routes).
Now I have experienced VERY strange behaviour of BaseCamp:
When I import a GPX-file, lots of lists are disappeared!!
That's not how it has to be, of course.
I've made a backup, and restored from the backup: all the lists are present.
But importing a new GPX-file: again lots of lists disappeared!!
Stressing...!
I don't know what to do.
Please, advise.

  • I find it amazing that it's been designed like that. Note amazed, not surprised!

Glad I use the Windows version.

I don't remember it ever working like that for me, but I don't import stuff into BaseCamp very often, and nowadays usually put it in the Cloud right away. Everything I've ever put in Mac OS X BaseCamp is still there.
  • It has always been like that...
I fired up an early version of Bobcat (the predecessor of RoadTrip & BaseCamp); it shows a similar behaviour (the difference is that the list and the imported items are deleted from the database, not only the list as in current versions of BC)

BaseCamp Help says: "The imported data is added automatically to a list named "Recently Imported from [file name]." This list is replaced each time you import data from a file. To create a permanent list that includes the imported data, rename the list, or copy the list."
This isn't completely correct as the list doesn't get the prefix "Recently Imported from", but otherwise it's quite clear.
The Dutch version is badly translated, and says "toestel" (device) instead of "bestand" (file); causing some confusion. Well, for those few that actually read the Help...
  • Note that this behavior will change in 4.3. The folder will no longer be removed. There was a disconnect when the name of the file was no longer called "Recently Imported" and yet is still being removed on the next import. Sorry for the confusion.
  • I have the same issue with my 12 month trip disappearing with the latest release 4.3. I restored the Library (Mac) and restarted the program. The old collection was there only until I came to it the next day and the same problem occurred, all gone.

I have since gone back to 4.2 thanks to Time Machine, the mac backup program and it seems to be running fine.

The basic problem is with the update. Nothing has changed with my machine only the Garmin update. I think I'll stick with 4.2 for a good while yet.
