Beta 4.0.0.5 Changes

Is it just me and my failing memory or did the route edit workflow change? I could have sworn that yesterday all I had to do was click/hold and then drag to edit, now I need to use the option key as well. I had really hoped the method for repositioning waypoints and via points would have been simplified to just a click/hold drag, rather than complicate the other functions just to be consistent. The reason this is important is that my left hand is usually busy with printed material, guide books, paper amps, notes etc. when I'm route planning. Being able to do all editing and most creation tasks with just the trackpad or mouse would be the ideal situation.

Regarding the hands-free operation in order to zoom/pan:
You don't need to continue holding down the Option key while the drag occurs. You just need to hold it down for the initial click. Then you can resume your hands-free movement, panning/zooming as required.

I still need to hold down the mouse button, which is not needed in MapSource.

Fair enough, but that still means I have to put down whatever I was holding in my left hand, in this case a guide book, use the option key and then pick up the book and try and find the reference or address or whatever I'd found that necessitated the move in the first place. I've been doing this a very long time and I really don't want to keep relearning a workflow that's worked well for over a decade. Why do you guys keep throwing curves at me that force me back to MapSource.

Yeah, sorry, I shouldn't have said hands-free. One hand is required throughout the process. Zoom and pan can occur with the the free hand, using the keyboard, after letting go of the Option key.
  • If you are trying to place a shaping point exactly on an intersection that also has several built in POI's nearby while holding down the mouse button it gets very awkward, then add in the fact that we need to use books and maps at the same time as Killtimer points out.....

I still think you guys need to Use the application much more so you can actually experience what we do with it.

We are looking into bringing this behavior back for users that need it.

Thank you. I'm going to hope that this hold true for the waypoint/via move as well. :)

Agree with OP and supporting comments. Agility to move around the route is essential. For me there are two big challenges: 1) zoom out far enough to select the route along most desirable roads and then 2) zoom in to place shaping points on intersections (NOT nearby POIs) so the completed route isn't full of orange flags or audible points when loaded in the zumo. I've got a simple CAD program that can easily go from broad view to detail then back - hope that BC can do the same. Holding the option key just makes it that much more difficult.
  • Computer Programmers drive a Mouse all day long.

Most of us meager software users have no where near the manual dexterity that you programmers develop during your daily job duties.

I know that will certainly be very difficult for programmers to understand.

If you really want this software to be Excellent You need to take different points of view much more seriously.
  • BaseCamp is a graphically interactive application and as much as I appreciate easy to use and "clean" user interfaces, there is nothing wrong with Tool Pallets. Why make workflow so awkward with double-key strokes and multi-hand operations when a simple Tool Pallet can accomplish the task faster and with less user stress of remembering what the key-combo was for a give operation?

    Cheers,
