Personalized position format

BaseCamp does not allow me to put in W069.0000 for Longitude of Origen, nor 0.9996 for scale factor. I am trying to set zone 19P for my BaseCamp as I have for my GPS (276C+). I need this because the dividing line between zone 18P and 19P runs squarely through the middle of the field I work in and the GPS jumps back and forth.

I might as well tell you that I have BaseCamp in Spanish, therefore West should be "O" for "Oeste" instead of "W" for "West". Also, I have used Mapsource since the program came out many years ago, and since moving to iMac, I sorely mis MapSource!

This is my third attempt to send this message; Garmin forum always hangs up and my messages never get through. This time, I will make a copy of the message before sending so that I do not have to re-type it all again when this message also fails.

    Mike,

I don't have a Mac but in the Windows version under Utilities, Options, Measurement there is a Position
section where you can have a User Defined Grid and a Properties option to do what I think you are
asking. If that is not there perhaps one of the Mac Desktop App Developers will see this and add it.

I have the similar problem as you when I try to log into the forum. I'll log in then on the next page
I am not logged in. I did go to https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forum.php and created a account
on the forum there. It uses a newer version of software then here at Garmin's forum. I was able to
log in and move through several sections of the forum and would always stay connected.

  • In the Mac (not MAC) version, this menu is found under Preferences --> Position Format --> Custom --> Options.

  • Don't you mean BaseCamp preferences General Tab?
  • I do -- good catch and thanks.

Prefs --> General --> Position Format --> Custom --> Options.

    Sorry 'bout that.

Really, guys,of course I went to Prefs....General......Position Format...Custom.....Options. I cannot change the Longitude of Origen to W69, nor can I change Scale Factor to 0.9996. Did anyone else try it? I have done this procedure many times in MapSource as well as in many of my GPS units, going back to the venerable GPS III+. Maybe I'm just a little ignorant of how to make BaseCamp work, but it is not for lack of effort.

    Mike,

I set Custom for the Format. Then I selected the Options button and entered W69.000 for Lat of Origen with a Scale Factor of 0.9996 - but, I don't think it set that Scale Factor because when I went back in to look, it was set to 1.0.

So, maybe the BC Dev Team can give us some input.

    Further than I got.

Looks like you got further along than me, I could not change to W69. I also did the change of scale but when I closed it went back to zero as you have observed. I might just see if I can go back to English and try again. But if you cannot change the scale, it will not do me much good. How do i contact the fine folks at Garmin/BaseCamp to let them know about the issue, or do they monitor this forum?

    Thanks,
    Mike

By the way, Dan, I had a look at your page of Globe Riders. Let me know if you are coming through Venezuela at the end of the year. I do not ride any more, but there are quite a few serious groups here in Venezuela that do.

Thanks for the offer Mike - unfortunately our route takes us from Columbia South through Chile and Argentina.

I assume you know how to get free detailed maps of Colombia, Argentina....I'm not sure about Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, etc. I am a contribuitor to the Colrut (Colombian Rutable) project. Here in Venezuela we have a very good detailed map for Garmin rutables, and it is a free download. The Venezuela map is much more advanced than the Colombian, but new contributors and editors are being added every week to the Colombian project.
