The Apple Appstore just gave the update message for BaseCamp 4.7.0

What's new?
- Updated BaseCamp to conform to GDPR privacy requirements
- Improved MTP device support
- Removed online components of Garmin Adventure
- Removed Garmin Cloud Drive support
- Removed Garmin Connect find and upload
- Removed Picassa photo sharing
- Improved stability

For me the good news is: There still is a developer team working on BaseCamp.

kind regards,
Svenja Svendura
PS: Hello to everybody. I'm from Germany and just new to the forum. :-)
  • It is a shame that BaseCamp 4.7.0 dropped the View in Google Earth. Personally, I reverted to version 4.6.2 !

They dropped it because it stopped working. If your Google Earth is up to date you'd see a message "unable to launch Google Earth" because the name of the executable changed a while back, and Garmin still calls the old one.

A workaround is to export the data you need as KMZ (or was it KML?) and then open it in Google manually.
  • I used to love the Cloud service!! I hate that now it's gone... I used to work some routes in my laptop, then finish working on them at home (bigger screen, easier to work)... Now I can't do that!! Shame on you Garmin!

You can drop your Basecamp library file onto your iCloud drive, or DropBox if you're old school. Just remember to give whichever computer you used last enough time to finish uploading any changes, and make sure the one you're about to use has enough time to download them before you start work. Even if your library is big thanks to BirdsEye imagery or millions of tracks it will sync up fairly quickly because it's not really a file, it's a folder which appears as a file, and only some assets inside change from one day to the next. Mine's approaching 1GB and this approach works fine, even via slow 3 MB/s DSL.
  • After basecamp update 4.7.0 mapinstall does not work. The function install maps (mapinstall with basecamp update 4.7.0 is updated to mapinstall 4.2.0) does not send maps to the device. It seems that everything went well but the map is not there. For this reason it is no longer possible to install openmtb maps or a selection. I had to use mapsource.
  • On Windows MapInstall you cannot send ANY map in the classic .img format anymore. Also genuine Garmin maps are arriving as overview map only. Actually it would be cool if garmin could use overview maps on devices too, so far they were basecamp/mapsource only - but please fix sending the actual maps too! Is anyone on OSx actually really having problems sending maps? I think those people writing about problems posted here because they found the thread via google and did not notice it's in the Mac/OSx section.

It didn't stop working. Basecamp 4.6.2 works just fine with Google Earth. You must have some other kind of issue if yours isn't launching. There are lots of trouble shooting tips out there to get it running right.

After updating I reverted back to 4.6.2 and all is working fine, including Google Earth. (windows 10)
  • I too need the google earth plugin capability. I just found 4.6.3 mac osx (and windows too if you were misdirected here somehow) right here --> https://www.techspot.com/downloads/6602-garmin-basecamp.html I'd suggest making a backup of your data before you downgrade. I lost the data from within the last 24 hours only (all the other data was there).

Maybe it's because I upgraded to Google Earth Pro 7.3.1.4507 on February 10th.

You do realise this is the Mac sub-forum, right?

I've reverted to 4.6.3. Happy again. Thanks for the direction.
  • Howdy y'all. Two issues... I need the feature set for my wildlife work with BaseCamp to GoogleEarth but if I (re)install the old version you say backup, but hey, backup to what, and how, and don't, please, start in with "right click" this or that and a string of Unix combos. Second, why won't CloudData accept my plot points recently? Thanks for any help. Alastair in Texas
