The Apple Appstore just gave the update message for BaseCamp 4.7.0

What's new?
- Updated BaseCamp to conform to GDPR privacy requirements
- Improved MTP device support
- Removed online components of Garmin Adventure
- Removed Garmin Cloud Drive support
- Removed Garmin Connect find and upload
- Removed Picassa photo sharing
- Improved stability

For me the good news is: There still is a developer team working on BaseCamp.

kind regards,
Svenja Svendura
PS: Hello to everybody. I'm from Germany and just new to the forum. :-)
  • Moore's law is slowing and 64 bit update should hold mac users for many years

Yeah, not much use to you but MapSource (8 years since the final update) still works for this PC user. So does my nuvi 1490T. :)

FYI the PC version of BaseCamp 4.7.0 isn't out yet but HomePort 2.3.0 (for PC) was released yesterday.
  • Indeed, I did. For years now I've been using Motoplaner.de but the service will stop on friday due to the GDPR. That brought me back to using BaseCamp once more.
One quite good alternative is kurviger.de . Works fine and gpx export is functional, also.
But for now I'll stick to BC and see, where it gets me.

kurviger.de is interesting. But it seems that I need to set a lot of "intermediate points" in order to get it to follow my route preference, rather than just grab and drag the route to the road I want to take. Am I missing something? Or is that the only way to do it?

I've run into the same issue and can't help, yet.
But what PSEABOLT says is true for me also: I don't want my navi to recalculate routes. I always use tracks instead. That's what I love Garmin BaseCamp for. I was on a motorcycle trip to Poland, Masuren, and it led me unbelievable beautiful ways, some just foot paths.

  • For those following this thread just note that many devices cannot read tracks, so for those tracks are not an option, you must use routes.
  • I just noticed that the "View in Google Earth" option is missing from the right-click menu in 4.7.0. Very disappointing. Is this a requirement for GDPR?

Good point SUSSAMB. I use BaseCamp with my Zumo 595 and e-trex models, but share the routes with a riding club. Some riders do own models that don't support tracks, so I do make use of routes to share with the group.

Is it not under View in the toolbar? I'm on 4.6.2 and there is no right click in that either, you need to use View, Google Earth

Oops, apologies, just noticed this is the Mac forum.
  • Darn the view in google earth is missing in 4.7. That was a great feature. I did not see a mention of this in the 4.7 notes. Anybody got a workaround
  • I have a 3597 and a 1490 and both will upload the route with making any changes with one exception. You can tell Basecamp to avoid interstate Highways but neither of my road GPSs have this option and if you use this option and upload, the route will not be the same route you uploaded. I am thinking all GPSs recalculate when uploaded now but BaseCamp sends the GPS the route preferences which we used to have to manually set before uploading on the older GPS.
  • The missing view in google earth/maps is not the problem I feared. Double click you waypoint, goto the advanced tab and copy the coordinates. Paste the coordinates in google earth search field. This is very useful for verifying you have the correct POI. It appears Google is winding down Google earth and moving to Google maps. It works just as well with Google Maps which not has street view and satellite view.
