[Mac] Basecamp 4.51: Crashs / Routing without function / Map display incorrectly

Hallo

am I the only one who has massive problems since Basecamp Version 4.50 on Mac (OS X 10.11)???
All maps and options work flawlessly with Basecamp 4.4.8!

Basecamp crashes frequently, if using a different map than the "Global Map" and zoom in/out.
I'm using about 99%, the "City Navigator Europe NTU 2016.10".

Furthermore, the routing no longer functions correctly since 4.50
Whether I change an existing route, which has always worked or make a new route as soon as I (re)calculate the route, only airline routing works. A switch to a different profile as "Shortest time" and / or recalculation is not accepted.

Map displays faulty!
When zooming in/out I noticed that Base Camp no longer displays the map details correctly anymore.
I have parts of the map where only a gray box is and parts where different Detail levels are represented.

Who has a solution for this so that the current version Basecamp 4.5.1 also works???

Thanks for all your help. I believe I have a fix for this problem and have sent you a PM with a link for the beta build for 10.11 support. Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for all your help. I believe I have a fix for this problem and have sent you a PM with a link for the beta build for 10.11 support. Let me know how it goes.

Any chance I can also try the beta build for 10.11. I have been having extensive crashes as well, cannot plan a route using start and end waypoints, and cannot modify an existing route. Program crashes continually. Using 4.51 with GM version of 10.11. Macbook Pro, mid 2013 Retina Display with 16gig of RAM. Thanks in advance
  • Thank you for the crash logs. I needed these to cross reference with what's been reported to make sure I'm looking at your problems.

To help debug this, I need to know how many files are open on the systems that are crashing all the time (10.11 is actually quite stable on my system). If anyone who's having this problem has a moment, I'd like to see how many files BaseCamp has open on your system just before a crash happens.

First, you need to get PID of BaseCamp. You can get this from Activity Monitor or by opening a terminal (using spotlight, type 'Terminal' w/o the quotes and select it -- it should bring up a window with a command prompt).

    1. At the command prompt, type: ps -A | grep BaseCamp
    - The number on the far left is the PID.

    2. Now enter this command at the prompt (replace nnnnn with the BaseCamp PID): lsof -p nnnnn | grep -v " txt " | wc -l

Here's example output from my terminal:

    wurth@wurth:~$ ps -A | grep BaseCamp
    39459 ?? 1:22.63 /Users/wurth/git3/build/Debug/AppStore/Garmin BaseCamp.app/Contents/MacOS/Garmin BaseCamp -NSDocumentRevisionsDebugMode YES
    39549 ttys007 0:00.00 grep BaseCamp
    wurth@wurth:~$ lsof -p 39459 | grep -v " txt " | wc -l
    414
    wurth@wurth:~$

If you could run that last command several times while you're performing those actions that cause a crash, then report here what the maximum number is reported from that lsof command.

    Thank you!

 I always get different PID ???!!!???
    Crashing but always 0

    Have a look:
    :mad:sorry can't attach pics here!

    Will try now your Beta.:p
  • @Wurth

    YEAH! ;)

Seemed as all my problems have gone.
Tried the last 40min all the things that made the last version (4.5.0/4.5.1) crash.

    Awesome! Thanks for verifying!
  • Thank YOU!:)
Great that Garmin is reading this thread and offer such solutions.

When would be the fix officially available?

Hey there, I found this old post than show the exact same problem then I have today.

I had hope in found a solution here, but isn't my lucky day.

Well... let me explain the problem.

Couple months ago I was using OX/S Sierra 10.12 with Basecamp 4.6.2 and all was working fine.

Then I start use OS/X to Mojave - 10.14, and all was working fine too - only show a message that Basecamp was a 32 bits app running in a 64 bits operating system.

My hell begins begin after uptade basecamp to 4.7 and next versions. Today I'm using basecamp 4.8.4 - with the same problem.

At all maps (except global map) when I do the zoom it and ask to show details - if I click over a hotel / gas station / etc - the Basecamp stop to work and shutdown, showing for me a Problem Report.

When it happens, I lose all changes than I did at the last 5 or 10 minutes.

Another issue - When I try use Find tool (find / find point of interest) - in the most of time only show me couple waypoints.
(if I trying find gas station, show me only 2 or 3, but sometimes, in the same point of search, show me a lot.

    I tried:
    - Use a external monitor in my macbook, closing the lid, to avoid retina screen.
    - Reinstall Basecamp and reinstall maps.
    - With only one CN map
    - With only a free osm map.
    - create new database / switch databases.
    - test in a fresh OS/X install / other macbook

    Everytime same problem.

I'm an advanced basecamp's user, all another more banals options I really tried too.

I have same configuration on Windows Computer, with basecamo 4.7 - I has been import databases from MAC to Windows and it's working very well.

    Any idea?
