I'm experiencing crashes when I try to Export with this version, I removed the overlays and the file exports OK, the file size stays the same (1.05gb)

How does it crash? Do you get an error report? Does it crash at the beginning or the end (or somewhere in the middle of export)?

Can you follow the steps at the bottom of this post to send us the error log? https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?74042-VIRB-Edit-does-not-export-my-videos-What-do-I-do

We've tested the installer on German machines and it works for us. Would you mind posting a screenshot of the error you are seeing?

I'd also try to re-download the installer just in case: http://www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=6591.

    Thank you for responding.

I had initially used the link at the top right of the Virb edit screen ("download update" or something to that effect). It was supposed to download a file named virbmain.msi (or something like that). The installer kept looking for the .msi in the \user\admin... folder, which I don't have. Providing the local name (\Benutzer\admin...) didn't help any. I was caught in a loop. I went to the Garmin website and used the same link you suggested above.

That did the trick at first. After re-booting (the next day), I was back in the loop, i.e., when I tried to load Virbedit, the installer woke from the dead and kept looking for virbmain.msi in the \user\admin... folder. Rinse repeat.

Two more re-installations and two days later the situation cleared itself up. I assume the third re-installation cleaned up the registry and let the installer (for the .msi) lay to rest.

So, sorry, no screen shot. If the installer raises its horrible compulsive head again, I'll capture all the images you want.

Btw, if you want to see a video which combines results from your program, the Garmin Edge 810, Garmin Connect, and some other software, here's an example, amateurish as it may be: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHEdxnXIhSA. If you watch long enough, you'll notice that the map in the upper right corner moves along with the bicycle.

Thanks for reporting back. Glad it's working!

Cool video! Did you use VIRB Edit to add the titles (the streets) or a different piece of software? Then it looks the only thing we are missing is the map within the video.

So far it sounds like all of the systems having trouble with playback are laptops.

Does plugging the laptop into external power or switching to a non-power-save power setting change anything?

We are looking into improving matters.
  • Hi,

With new version I can successfully export some videos that previosuly always crashed, but I have the same problem playing videos inside Virb. I don't have a laptop. My specifications are:

    CPU: Intel Core 2 6400 2.13 GHz
GPU: NVidia GeForce GTX 650 Ti
    RAM: 4GB
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit

    Regards
  • I am having trouble trying to get overall numbers on a distance Gauge for videos recorded on a long ride. I kept the Garmin Virb Elite turned on basically all the ride, and I kept recording small segments, just turning it off for a battery swap, and later for a longer feeding stop. I can see I end up with the gpx files belonging to each video, and 3 fit files for each power on period. The videos are imported without problem directly from the Camera, and when I drag the videos from the ride into one single video edit The circular distance Gauge shows percentage progress not counting the whole distance from start to finish, but relative to each period the camera was on and standing by. The first camera power off was at the 50 km mark, so in order to keep the distance marker adding up and not going back to 0, I had to import the 3 activity files into basecamp , I joined them and exported a gpx file, which then replaced the gps data for each of the videos taken after the first power off. I wonder if Virb Edit could offer some function to prevent having to use this Manual workaround, basically joining the separate fit files so that distance and other counters related to the whole recording activity can be displayed as intended.

Allright. Had to play with powermanagement settings. Now I have flawless playbackt.
