Sometimes Distance and Duration were reset when recorded long track (Virb Edit 2.4.0)
When i was import 2 clip (continuous recorded / split by camera about 23:45 min).
In sometimes Distance and Duration were continue , but sometimes were not .
Distance and Duration reset and starting to count from 0 km / 0 min.
How to solve this problem?

Is this data from a VIRB Elite?

Or did you add the same FIT or GPX data to the same clip?

I was use import from Virb Edit / Yes, it's Virb Elite.
Don't know this problem from 1.GPS not Sync 2.Virb Edit ?
  • I am having this same issue from my Virb Elite. It is very frustrating.

On a continuous ride (or kayaking), the distance and duration will reset as it transitions to the next video file. The track segments are still shown correctly though.
  • I noticed yesterday, when putting together a video where I had to replace the GPS track because (for the first time in a long time) my VIRB Elite froze during recording, that there's now a Distance/Duration button in the section (Edit->Adjust) where you adjust the GPS track to line up with the video (latest Mac OS X VIRB Edit). It seems to want you to click on the map to set the beginning of the activity. (I didn't try because I had already tediously aligned my track from my Edge 800, and the transitions of distance/duration all looked fine at that point.) Worth trying out to see if that will do what you want to fix your distance/duration problems.

I've seen the "reset at the beginning of the clip" problem myself, but only on video where I had stopped and started recording (rest stops, changing batteries, and yesterday a freeze) during the course of the video. That seems to somehow allow VIRB Edit to mess up duration/distance in the clips prior to the recording stoppage.

Thank you , This method helps to answer me. I's just see this menu (Edit > Adjust >Distance Duration)
  • I have the same problem. 3.5 hours bicycle ride, after 1.5 hours I needed to replace the battery. Importing in Virb Edit and putting the "duration" and "distance" gauges they are considered as two rides (reset to 0 at the point I had to switch off the camera to replace the battery), I couldn't find any way to "join" the two parts.

    Help!
  • What I tried, but didn't follow through on, was putting the video together without worrying about the distance/duration transitions and then exporting the whole video and throwing away the resulting .mp4 file. VIRB Edit creates a .gpx for the entire video then. I was going to use that .gpx to replace the original VIRB track, but then I decided I'd rather use the track from my Edge 800, which would allow me to put temperature on the video as well. That worked fine, but since you have to replace the track on a clip by clip basis, I had to fiddle around with the transitions between each clip to make sure they looked OK. In the end, I got it all right. So if you have another track (from an Edge, say), just use that. Otherwise, export the video and try the track exported by VIRB Edit.
  • I use Virb Edit for Mac. Mainly for curiosity, I gave a try to be able to have duration and distance for the whole ride. Even if it is against the concept of having a Virb Elite, I have replaced the track recorded by Virb Elite with the fit file from my Edge 800. I had to repeat the process for each clip (11 clips in total!). Every time that I replace the track, all data are out of sync and I have to manually adjust the start point ... really boring and time consuming. I found useful to superimpose in the video the duration gauge, and I was using that time as a reference: one clip has to start at the time the previous clip finishes (accuracy is at one second). Repeating that process for each clip, I ended up with a complete video, with duration and distance apparently fine. Then I double checked the frames across the "junctions" between clips and I realized that the gps track was out of sync with the video ... at the end I gave up.

I expect that the next revision of Virb Edit will have the capability to have duration and distance to run along the entire video.

    Thank you.
  • If you persist, you can do it. The initial alignment between the track and the video is ridiculous, so it always has to be aligned. (The very last clip is an exception for some reason.) I generally try to align with intersections, especially ones where I had to stop, so I should see the speed drop to zero or close to it. Of course, I've discovered that the position of intersections on the Google Maps that I use in VIRB Edit are sometimes a little off for minor roads, although they always seem to be OK so far for major roads. Then I check the duration/distance transition between clips, and iterate from there. I've had to do it twice now, and the results are pretty good if you spend the time. I've also had some success earlier aligning with the altitude of landmarks (which is more or less accurate on my Edge 800, but can be wildly off on the VIRB itself).

Two things do really have to be fixed in the next Mac VIRB Edit, the initial alignment of the video and track (I would think that would be easy, since you should be able to time tag every frame of the video and find the nearest track point to one of them, but maybe I'm missing something; at 30 or 60 fps, you wouldn't even need to interpolate, although you might want to at lower frame rates) and the transition from one clip to the next, where the duration/distance should just be carried over unless the user tells you not to. I'd like to see something like a "right click on the duration/distance gauge to be able to set it arbitrarily" type of interface, because eventually I'd like to set duration as moving time rather than elapsed time. It'd also be nice if track replacement would be per project rather than per clip just to make things a little easier.
  • I persisted, and finally I did it. I had to redo it completely, the first time I counted on the timer, under the impression that the time ticks when it's not on pause: my mistake! During the ride I stopped few times (sandwich, refill the bottle), I discovered that in Virb Edit the timer doesn't stop. I have redone completely the alignment of each clip, using map references and also the point reached in the previous clip. Lot of work. It was an exercise to show that it's possible, but definitely it's not practical, particularly if you have a Virb Elite with all data already in sync with the video. As I said, the only thing missing in Virb Edit, that would avoid in a very simple way to do all that manual work, is the option to have the duration and the distance running from the beginning to the end of the entire video. That simple!
