Map in output (export) of VIRB?

After the Issue with the decimal devider was known, I managed to try things out.
The following things came to mind.
Is it possible to have the map to be included in the exported video?
Are there troggle switches for things to be includes/excluded in the video, like speed and hight?
Video without map:

Video with map:
www.youtube.com/watch
As you can see the icons of the start, end, and current location are a bit big.
Besides when you zoom in, the red dot (current location) disappears from the visable part.
Is it possible to have the map auto-centered around the current location? (possible an on/off switch)

    Tempe Sensor

    Thank you for your feedback.

VIRB Edit 2.1 will definitely fix the decimal divider/display of track on map issue. It will be available soon.

We will provide more options for overlays and the capability to turn on or off different overlays in a later release.

Unfortunately we cannot export the map along with the video. Microsoft/Google would not be very happy about that. We looked into it, but it's not doable under the license we have.

Having the map auto-centered is something we will be looking at for 2.3.

Any Idea when the tempe sensor overlay will become available? Yes I have it and it is paired. But it does not show up on the video. I for one as an Elite owner, am quite disappointed About the GPS overlay. You showed it in your intrdutory video but it is not available. Smells of false advertising. Hope you get it corrected soon.

Well at least you answered me. I thank you for that. Although I am not really happy with the answer. You have a step up on GoPro, Just by being here and Answering. I am Navythomas8 on You tube. Your answers will be duely noted in my progress video's.
  • Yes, in 2.2 you will get the track outline. Check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMM59pzjyjQ. It has a track on the top right, it's a bit boring though.

Video looks great - loving the new overlays - cant' wait.

Also I would like to thank you for your contributions to these forums - it is great to see someone from Garmin interacting with their customers - something the iPhone App developers should learn from and quickly!!

A thought regarding map overlays - don't Garmin own their own Maps? Could they not be used as an alternative to Google / Bing if a license deal can't be reached?

    No, they don't.

Hey Mike, you´re pretty good in shape, or did you sum up left and right pedal power? :-)
by the way, how did you get the nice info display overlay?
    br Christian

btw, I would love to overlay my own brand logo instead of the "Garmin Virb" text in my Virb videos, any chance to do so?

I wish I were in such good shape. :)

The display overlay was created using VIRB Edit 2.2.

2.2 also gets rid of the Garmin VIRB logo.

    I know of two options.
1- screen capture the preview (like I did before with DirectSreamRecorder).
2- screencapture the map, use an overlay without track, use another video-editing program (like PowerDirectorPro) to combine the exported video (with overlay) and the map.
The map should be inserted as Picture in Picture.

Anything ever happen with this? I would love to have the ability to add a map overlay into videos while I'm out! So much so that I think I'm going to find a workaround until a user friendly option becomes available

We are still looking into this. It's something we would love to make happen. I'll let you guys know once there are any news on this. (Definitely won't be in the upcoming 2.4 release.)

Till then, please try using one of the techniques PA3FBO helpfully pointed out.

Just curious about this, specifically for uploading Virb videos to YouTube. Since both Google Maps and YouTube are Google products, what would be Google's objection to having the map included in the video? Even though Garmin's current license may not allow this, it's a question that Garmin's lawyers could want to take up with Google's lawyers. Maybe Google could consider allowing the maps to be included in YouTube videos. If you don't ask, you don't get ...
