Google Maps error for G-Metrix sync

I'm getting a Google Maps error when trying to import a G-Metrix log (gpx file). I see the map for a fraction of a second and then it shows the following message (see attached image). Has this happened to anyone else and have you been able to resolve the issue? ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1383490.png
  • Ok, this should be all straightened out. If you are still having problems, please let me know

    Still not working.

did you try re-installing? That worked for me.

A re-install is not needed. The map service is periodically coming on and off-line. When online, seems to be the "for development purposes only" version.

OR - are you saying when you re-installed, you now have access to the full map; and not just the dev only map?
  • For what it's worth, it at least appears I am up and running again. Yes, I see "for development purposes" on the google map, however, it at least appears that I am all synced up and my gauges are running properly. I personally do not need a google map overlay on my video (just distance, course and elevation gauges) so I understand others will not like that label. But progress is progress.

  • I still am only getting the "development purposes" crude map, which is at least an improvement. However, I miss the ability to synchronise with an actual land-mark (e.g. driveway junction).
I have tried Dashware. Its map display is only about as good as this (degraded) VirbEdit one. However, it appears to be more flexible with the gauges, and considerable customisation of these is possible. Not sure whether trimming is possible. I would say that as the VirbEdit stands at present, for me Dashware is probably better. If Garmin fix the map issue then I'll come back to this one. Other conclusions and opinions are available :-)
  • That fix has filtered to me as well. I just need the map to synch the video time line and that works. The course track gauge now reflects geo ok. Also not a user who incorporates the actual map into any video clip.

Before re-installing I got the JavaScript Error, no map. After re-installing I got the watermarked basic map that pretty much just had land and bodies of water. Only a few minutes passed between tests. I admit, they could have been offline right before reinstall, and online, right after.

I really would prefer to see the aerial images of the land. It makes it much easier to sync.
  • Since this change was on the Garmin servers, it may take some time to propagate to everyone, though I would expect Windows users to all have it by now. It may also be that the inline browser in VirbEdit is caching the old page. Mac VirbEdit did not receive its fix until a few hours ago, so it may still be rolling out. If you are still experiencing issues, please tell me if you are using a Mac or Windows computer to run VirbEdit. I have not observed the "For development purposes" overlay on Windows, but I'm going to spend some time right now to try to figure that one out.
  • windows 10 64 bit. Just reinstalled.....I get the dark "for development purposes" map plus a message from Google that says...unable to load map properly.
  • working for me now Windows 7 Garmin Edit 5.4.2
