Hi Everyone,

VIRB Edit release 5.1.2 for Win is now available. You can download it from here.
The in-application update is live as well.

This release includes the following:
  • Added light/dark theme 360 intro/outro
  • Addressed export issues and improved stability
  • Various localization updates and improvements
  • Since the versions of VIRB Edit 4.2.3 and later are using the Graphics Card for additional processing power, a step of the installation of VIRB Edit should interrogate the Graphics Card on a individual's computer to determine if it is upto the minimum acceptable specification. If the card does not meet the acceptable specification, STOP the install and advise that the Graphics Card doesn't have the required level of processing ability. Performing this interrogation and reports would probably decrease the number of complaints about the software not working.

On a personal note, the GC on my $800 Desktop appears to be inadequate for VIRB Edit, however the GC on my $400 laptop is adequate. Frustrating!

The best I could find was 4.2

  • I continue to have crashes on 5.1.2. I had to go back to 4.2.3, the last version that worked for me. This is extremely frustrating and makes me regret spending close to $1,000 on the Virb camera and accessories! :( :( :(

I'm also getting a crash whenever I play or try to edit a video file. This has been ongoing since the last two releases (since 5.1.0 I believe). As mentioned in another thread for one of the previous versions - if I changed my sound device in Windows to something other than my actual sound card (Creative SB Xfi) then the crash does not happen. Pasted below is the initial error info.

Nothing on this forum works well enough to permit the effective exchange of information about my issues.

mmi16 Would you please provide additional information regarding the export crash you're experiencing?
    • Is your video card driver up to date?
    • Are you experiencing the crash during the export process or
    • Does the crash happen before the export progress increments past 0% or
    • Does the crash happen after the export progress reaches 100%?
    • Did you try selecting different encoder/decoder settings under Menu -> Settings -> Media to check if this enables export to go through?

Good luck getting an answer. I asked the same question about a month ago and got no answer. Neither have I gotten an answer about why the indicated speed drops out above 127 Kts on my flying videos. It's very disappointing...

mmi16 and OneCharlieFox Thanks for your interest. The CSV output at export contains MISB compliant data that can be used with a third party tool to generate FMV (Full Motion Video). Details at:
    https://geonet.esri.com/community/gis/imagery-and-remote-sensing/blog/2017/07/05/garmin-virb-cameras-support-arcgis-fmv

GPX is a common file format for exchanging all kinds of GPS types of information (position, elevation, heart rate, temperature, etc). This is provided based on requests from users for purposes such as reviewing the track corresponding to the video in third party tools.

Would you please contact Garmin product support and share your videos and associated g-metrix data through them to help us investigate why the indicated airspeed drops out above 127 kts?

I was afraid to install the update.
I didn't install the previous two updates because there were no real or wanted improvements, and sadly I was right... Now I can't export videos!

I had to find where I could download an older version of the software because you don't have that on your website.
Knowing what happens with newer versions, you should have an option to install the previous version.

There are some really simple things I would like to see on Virb Edit though:
-Add an "apply to all" option on Gmetrix import
    - Add an "apply to all" option on Gmetrix Sync when we adjust the first video with the map. It's tiresome to sync every video clip to the same fit file over and over again.
-Center the "ball" on the map when we zoom in.

    Thank you for your time.

theSIGNer Thanks for the suggestions, we've noted them.

theSIGNer and ViPeR5000 I'm sorry for the export issues you're encountering with version 5.x. I have similar questions for you as those for another user who reported export crashes earlier in this thread: Would you please provide additional information regarding the export crash you're experiencing?
    • Is your video card driver up to date?
    • Are you experiencing the crash during the export process or
    • Does the crash happen before the export progress increments past 0% or

TexasChip I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing crashes with the app. We're urgently working to resolve crashes and release updated versions of the app. Could you please share additional information regarding the crash you're experiencing?
    • Is it crashing for you while editing or while exporting?
    • If it is crashing during exporting then I suggest addressing the following:
      • Is your video card driver up to date?
      • Are you experiencing the crash during the export process or
      • Does the crash happen before the export progress increments past 0% or
      • Does the crash happen after the export progress reaches 100%?
      • Did you try selecting different encoder/decoder settings under Menu -> Settings -> Media to check if this enables export to go through?

    • If it is crashing during editing then do submit the crash report. It should give you the option to add text before submitting the crash report. Would you go ahead and type in my forum ID equinox1234 to help us find the crash report?
    • It would be helpful if you copied the crash data prior to submitting it and sent us a copy. You can post it here if you'd like.
    • Additional steps to reproduce the crash would be helpful.
