VIRB Edit 5.1 Export Issues

Hi Everyone,
Some users have reported export issues withe VIRB Edit 5.1 (lines/artifacts present in exported video, error prior to starting export, error when export progress reaches 100%, VIRB Edit crash when initiating export, etc). Unfortunately, very little information was provided along with these reports which doesn't help in their investigation. I'm creating this thread to ask users to provide relevant, specific information to help investigate these issues, in an overall effort to improve your VIRB Edit experience!

Would you please provide the following information?
- Turn on extra logging (and then reproduce the issue): Menu > About> check the Turn on extra logging checkbox.
- Send us export logs: These can be found at C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Temp\VirbExport\<VirbEdit version>. Make sure to get the logs from the VirbExport folder, not VirbEdit.
- List the resolution/fps/target quality setting at which the issue occurs.
- List the encoder/decoder combination.
- Machine specs, including RAM, video card model, driver SW date (to check if the driver is up to date), video driver RAM. Users can run dxdiag and send us the output in txt file format.
- Information regarding your clips (such as resolution/fps) would be helpful.

If you prefer, you can e-mail this to me through the forum (as opposed to posting this information in the forum).

Thanks in advance!

    Thanks for responding

That most likely means the crash is occurring before export ever begins, which is good to know.
That's probably the case since yesterday I was able to export two videos with no problems. So there must be some kind of problem with the original video I was trying to export, although in years of exporting videos, I have never had an export fail before upgrading to 5.1.0. I did notice that when editing, sometimes the audio on that video would play and sometimes not so maybe that's related. The bad news is that the .gpx data isn't working on the videos - during editing my templates are frozen. Also, on those last two videos I exported, a .csv file was being saved as well. What the heck is that for?

I only do 1080p videos so thanks for the information on graphics memory. I found a cheap ($35) Radeon HD 8570 1GB PCIe x16 on Newegg to replace my Radeon HD 5700.

What the heck is the little "Travelapse" icon on the thumbnails, anyway? Is there somewhere online where I can read about the new features in v 5.1.0?

I understand that Garmin tech support is very busy right now, but since I'm not getting much help here, I reverted to v. 4.2.3 and don't intend to "upgrade" to v5.1.0 until the bugs are fixed. I did install the recommended Radeon HD 8570 and it seems to work OK. I did lose a bunch of .gpx files in the transition, though.

I need some help. I just edited a video in Garmin VirbEdit and it won't export. At 3% it give me the following pop up - "The was an error exporting the video". The video is about 4 minutes long and contains a mixture of video and still frames. I am running version 5.1. Thank you.
  • As an update the issue I was experiencing seems to have been fixed with version 5.1.1

I updated to v 5.1.1 and now I can export again. Thanks, Garmin!
  • Get Error and Program shut down message when trying to Export

The Export Screen comes up and then the program crashes without ever having the button pushed to actuate the Export.
  • I can push on "Export" as often as I want to. You can see an appearing loading animation for a microsecond. That?s it.
    No Video, no error message.
Changing the expoting codec does not change anything, either.
In 5.1.0 it was fine, 5.1.1 introduced this new feature.
