You can download it at http://www8.garmin.com/support/downl...ls.jsp?id=6591, the in-application update will go live shortly as well.

This is a major release paired with the announcement of the VIRB Ultra 30.

Updates:
  • Allow updating cameras from within the application (without invoking WebUpdater)
  • Auto-create videos based on detected highlights
  • Optimize videos on import to allow for more performant editing
  • VIRB Ultra 30 support:
    • UHD video playback, editing, and export
    • Favorite clips
    • Manual highlights
    • Import camera-generated optimized videos

  • Multi-cam improvements:
    • Picture-in-picture
    • Video mirroring (for reverse cam)
    • Faster, simpler, and more reliable detection

  • Added built-in music tracks to add to videos
  • Added ability to set a point for relative elevation:
    • Elevation shows 0 at that point
    • Can force positive-only numbers

  • Automatically select default template based on available G-Metrix
  • Added optional Garmin-branded videos for export
  • Hi !
    Worst:[/B]
    - Too many problems with GMetrix Templates and Gauges. Gauges Editor its a nightmare, the templates have dissapeared, the dowload of new Gauges does not work for me ..

Thats explained several times in this thread.
Just go to the settings, activate "Display only gauges with g-metrix" or something similar. Leave the setup and deactivate it again. Then all gages will be back again.

I like the automatic video creation. But it would be nice to add the option, when selecting several videos (on right click).
Also it is not ideal how it works with motorbikes. The topspeed sections where not taken, mostly just straight driving with average speed.
Heating up the tires (driving in a snake line) seems more interesting then fast, long corners with a deep incline.

But Edit magically stops freezing, after returning to the gallery. That´s nice :)
  • In setting the G-Metrix start point - has the width of the starting line been narrowed.

It looks like setting the start on automotive pit lane does not carry the start line across the width of the track and thus the lap timer and lap counter don't work correctly.

There should be a user configurable track width option available in setting G-Metrix as different activities have different track widths. Making it wide for automotive activities doesn't work for bicycle activities; making it narrow doesn't work for automotive.

The GPS data acquisition on my race car has a configurable track width option.

    Pip

It's a Multi-Cam feature. Basically you need to have 2 or more VIRB Cameras, doesn't matter which (Elite, X/XE, Ultra 30). Record clips with 2 or more of the cameras simultaneously (make sure you have a solid GPS lock) then import them into VIRB Edit, when you add the clips to a Video VIRB Edit will detect the clips as "Multi-Cam". Access the "Editing" tab and you'll see some extra settings in there for Multi-Cam (PiP). You'll be able to size, move, mirror the PiP window along with other tweaks (G-Metrix, Audio).

    Hello; how do you mean bu you have solid gps;
is it ok with edge exported gpx or camera built in gps must be on ?

    thank you
  • I have put together a video of about 40 minutes duration. When I try to export it VIRB Edit crashes and the program gets closed.

Default Overlay and starting time of lap

    Dear Garmin Team

you promised a "Change default overlay" - but I can't find where to change this.

Also the function from older virb edit "start point" when I can tell virb where my lap starts is gone. How can i set up the point where my lap starts in virb edit 4.1

    Thanks

    Chris

When you apply a template out of G-Metrix, you will get asked the 'set start point' question.
  • Thanks but ...

    Hi,

yes, thanks, i have read the workaroud for recovery the templantes* and gauges. But i say too that gauges editor is a nightmare, and the download of new gauges does not work.

    Salute.

    * Recovered the templantes, but with colours and font variations in gauges.
  • Yesterday I cut my very first Picture in Picture Video.
This worked great! Thank you Garmin :) Just add a single video and it automatically find the suitable rear recording from the gallery. Easy as nuts

But some things are not working very smooth.
    • Adding recordings with a scrollbar in the timeline, will add the recording somewhere, but not at the mouse location
    • Using Title is nice. But adding pictures or videos, will screw it up
    • Finding recordings is impossible! You can just see the first part of the name, but not the number. Only on right-click "Properties" it can be seen. A mousehover would be nice, a search great! (The order is sometimes a mystery). Pictures-names are shown better.
    • Using different Overlays in a single video. The gauges are great, but you have to render several videos and combine them afterwards to archive that
    • Add a YouTube optimized export. YT always bleat around, that I can archive better results when keeping with their specifications
    • Deleting a clip (or just parts) should ask for leaving the G-Metrix for a complete map
    • Add an overall-distance gauge. Got 3 Timelaps videos from a drive to a racetrack. Each starts fresh at 0 km. (We did small breaks, that´s why I got three videos)

Beside of these improvements, I´m always happy to use Virb Edit. Still take GoPro Studio to cut recordings from my old Hero. They got nice filters, but that´s all good to say ;)

Currently you can only create Multi-Cam Videos with 2 or more VIRB Cameras, the GPS on all cameras must be on and a solid icon should display on all the camera screens (not blinking). To my knowledge you cannot create Multi-Cam videos with edge exported gpx files, you need two or more VIRB Cameras (Elite, X/XE, Ultra 30).
