The most underrated watch, withings steel sport

Well folks found the almost perfect general fitness watch, the Withings steel sport. I find the Vivomove hr is disappointing, steps well overestimated, hr wont record until your really warmed up when biking and fails at tracking hr, and sleep recording is next to useless. The oboy thing it has going for it is looks. The hr recording on my steel does a good job compared to my chest strap even with some hard out biking, whereas nothing happens with the vivomove, till 10-15mins later.

Garmi are not as good as they used to be. My Withings steel sport is fantastic, hr matches my heart chest strap right from the word go, steps are correct, been counting steps in my head and comparing them to my withings and spot on.

seems people like big numbers rather than real step counting.

even though the steel does not have GPS, linked with your phone, it's dead accurate. Sleep tracking is almost spot on and pretty close to fitbit, which I found the most accurate.

the steel sport has amazing battery life and looks good.

if there is some downers it that, pushing a pram, it trolley, it wont record the steps, and the screen, like the vivomove hr is hard to read I the sun. As for comfort, you don't even feel it's on your wrist.
  • Hi Denodan,
I did find the my Fenix 3 overestimates the number of steps done. What made me stay with Garmin was its ecosystems and the wealth of sport watches available (from biking to sailing to diving to golf, for those that like it). How is it possible that a brand so linked with sports has so inaccurate measures? It seems to me that the tracking of steps has improved recently or on recent models (or am I deceiving myself?) ? Unfortunatly Withings doesn't support sports such as biking or swimming. Does it?

Yes it does, do running and biking and can pick up to 30 activites. While it does not have GPS on the watch, it links with your phone to get GPS and very accurate. The only time it does not record steps is if your pushing a trolley.

The hr tracking is better than my Vivomove hr, while the hr strap is better, the steel sport for an optical watch does a good job.

I found with my Vivomove, at times in the morning looking it may say over 200 steps when in fact may have walked 50 or so.

so its recording arm movements during sleep at times as steps. No so with the withings.

I get around 3 or more weeks on a charge and that's recording my cycling activity 2 times a day.

it's a great watch and has real watch hands.
