Set up assistance using the Garmin Connect app.

Can anyone explain what this means 'Set up assistance using the Garmin Connect app'? I sometimes get this message come up when trying to active the Run/GPS mode and then the watch turns off. I have tried doing a full reset, but occasionally still comes up, very frustrating when about to head out for a run. (vivoactive 3 Music)

  • It means, that you press the button for too long. If you press it 5sec + it acts like an emergency button. Preset contact will be reached if your phone is nearby

Thanks for the insight about the message. I might be having issues with the button itself as the message comes up even if I just press the button under 5 seconds and then the watch turns off and in some cases resetting my step count to 0.

I’ve got the same issue. I just need to think of touching the button, Setup assist message comes up then the watch shuts itself down. And it won’t turn back on for a day, then struggles 3-4 times to get past the start up screen with hours in between of non-responsiveness. I’ve performed a reset, factory reset, still the same. The watch is less than a year old. It did this at the start, and if I was home I would have returned it straight away. It stopped for a while and was ok, but now is pretty useless for recording any actual activities that don’t auto start. I bought the first vivoactive 3 music, to find that Spotify was geo-locked. Bought this now and it doesn’t work like its supposed to. I bought this to replace a vivoactive HR after the display just faded away, which was a replacement for a forerunner where the strap just dissolved after time. I’m slowly. Coming to the conclusion that Garmin are pretty poor product. Maybe I’m just unlucky, but there is a trend. Even Spotify doesn’t really work well on this current watch, I get a half white and black screen a lot. I don’t use it for swimming, don’t wear it in to shower. I’ve found it a waste of cash, and will be going on amazon to leave the review not to touch it.

I’m kinda wishing I just bought an Apple Watch now. If I can get a refund I will.

Hi was this ever resolved?  I bought a watch in Nov 2019 and now I’m Feb I’m having the same message and issue. When I push the button to go back to the watch main screen the message comes up and the watch shuts down. Also won’t charge it seems. I’ve done a hard reset and soft reset, etc. I’ve contacted Garmin and will also send mine back.

I ended up returning my watch. It crapped out so bad I wasn't able to turn it back on to try some of the solutions suggested by Garmin. And when I tried to replace like for like found out the Vivoactive 3 was a discounted price for a reason, and subsequently pulled. I got the vivoactive 4. Does the job, no issues, but more money then I originally wanted to spend. I think the 3 was buggy.
