I swear I saw it somewhere but I can't seem to find an answer by searching here and elsewhere on the internet. So, what is the reason for the $30 price increase of the Black/Slate model?
From what I've read, the price difference is justified (by Garmin) with coating on the bezel (slate/gunmetal) and (possibly) coating on the glass to make it more durable/scratch-proof. However, the slate/gunmetal coating should make more visible scratches (exposing the silver underneath) than the silver version. As for the possible coating on the glass... I'm told it will wear off in time and so may not be worth it. IMO the silver version is the best bet even though the slate/version (without scratches) does look nicer. Of course most 3rd party watch straps compatible with the VA3 come with silver buckles so there' s another reason to go with the silver instead of the slate/gunmetal.
i bought the slate. not too bothered with changing straps much, as mine also came with an extra olive green - or as garmin calls it Moss - colored strap.
eventually tho i may just buy a hirsch james that has an option for a black buckle.
