Garmin Venu Out of the Box Heart Sensor not working (?)

Former Member

Hi Guys,

I have just bought the new Garmin Venu, however it seems that heart sensor is not working. It only turns on for the second when I change the option Status in the Write Heart Rate from Off to Auto, after that it turns off again and no data is being recorded.

EDIT:

Actually, it started working for some time, and now it stopped. Not sure if it is related, but it started to work while configuring Spotify... :/

Is there anything more I can do with it or should I give it back?

Regards,

Adam

  • I have the exact same problem since a few days. There are periods it normally displays the heart rate but then it's just displaying --

I have already reset the watch but it appeared again. Any trick or workaround?

  • Hello! Have you made sure the device is up to date? Can you plug the device into the computer and sync with Garmin Express. then unplug the device and reset it. If you are still experiencing --- readings please let me know!

Hi, I've been having the exact same problem and have had my Venu about 5 days.  GPS works fine as does Spotify, just the sensors that don't (for the first 2 days they were fine and last 2 days it's largely not been working other than some intermittent times).  I've tried what Amber has suggested and no good.

    Thanks Justin

  • Did you ever get this resolved? I have the same problem, went through troubleshooting with support, they sent me a replacement... the same thing is happening again. And like you, plugging it in and syncing does nothing.

  • With Garmin watches in general, OHR will stop shortly after you take it off, and then start a bit after you put it on.  Is the watch always being worn?  You can peek under the back and look if the green leds are on.  Is anything like a tattoo involved?

  • Yep, I never take it off except to charge it. I am intrigued by your question about tattoos though! I do have tattoos on that arm -- does that affect the watch's ability to read it? My last watch worked consistently on the same arm, but maybe the Venu2 is different? I don't know haha, but that's really interesting. I can try it on the arm with less tattoos.

  • Hi !  Please see the FAQ linked below:

"Tattoos can impact heart rate sensor accuracy and performance. In some cases, the optical sensor may not even turn on. The ink, pattern, and saturation of some tattoos can block light from reaching the sensor, potentially making it difficult to get a reliable heart rate reading. For best performance, wear your watch in an area free of tattoos."

  • Thank you very much! I switched to my other arm with less tattoos and it seems to be working fine now. I had no idea or I would've tried the other arm a long time ago Sweat smile Thanks for the info.
