Music volume control not working on my Venu

I recently bought the Garmin Venu, with Spotify being the final (and very necessary) selling point. I wanted a watch with music so that I didn't have to bring my phone along with me on a long run. Unfortunately, I'm beginning to realise that this is a very common problem with Garmin watches and Garmin has completely pushed the issue aside and blamed it on the headphone companies. This is disappointing, as my headphones work perfectly when paired with my phone, but are completely trying to blow my eardrums when paired with my brand new watch. The volume is set at a dangerously high volume and cannot be adjusted.

As a result, I may need to invest in a pair of Bluetooth headphones with volume control, but looking at others' reviews, I'm not sure this will solve the issue. Will the volume controls work on the headphones when paired with my watch, or am I wasting my time/money and would I better to just return the watch and settle for Samsung?

I am using this earbud with volume control and it works fine. Just got to know how to use it using the tap feature, no buttons.

  • Also have trouble with the watch controlling volume on my Jam Live Loud.

  • I’ve noticed that my Cambridge Audio Melomania 1 ear buds now work with volume up and down, and stop and skip forward and back. They definitely didn’t work for all of this when i first bought the watch in June. I think this must have come in with either update 5 or 5.1 on the Venu.

Maybe worth others having another test to see if now working with ear buds that previously did not? Obviously some work being done at Garmin to improve compatibility?

I have the same issue here with a new Garmin Venu I just bought. I am extremely dissapointed about this and also about setting up Spotify. So much that I am considering returning the device.

  • I’ve been experiencing the same issues with sony earbuds. garmin has not been able to provide any solutions. I’m just going to return and buy an apple watch instead.

  • Same here. Just got myself a Venu and am sorely disappointed that the volume control function doesn't work with a Haylou GT1 Pro. However, it works fine with my husband's Huawei AM61 earphones.

  • I think it is intermittent, as the first time I played my own music sync from Express, the volume worked so well but when i tried syncing after my Spotify playlist then listen to them, the volume seemed to be not working, i tried syncing device to watch again and tried music and then spotify and it worked again for both

  • Have tried with two diffrent pars of earbuds. i cant control the volumen at all on the one pair, and can even see a driffence on the manual control when touching and the volumen is all the way up. The other pair i can see when touching but nothing happens, but i can turn the volumen up an down on the divice.??  not good when you buy a watch for running with music.

  • I have the same problem 2 years later. Very, very disappointed with Garmin on this point. I can't believe they still haven't fixed this.

  • All,

Please see: Bluetooth Headphone Compatibility for Garmin Music Watches

Note that the ability to control the volume of your earbuds will vary based on the model of earbuds that you have paired to the watch:
