I write here since I have just bought a Venu Sq but reading the forum I understand that this is a general problem for garmin watches. I appreciate many things about garmin product. I have a huawei watch fit that is quite good for the price but the app huawei health is terrible so I decided to buy a garmin product since I was sure that the product was perfect.
Ok the software is much more better and probably for outdoor activity venu sq is a little better, just a little since this morning I test both of them in a walk and the results were very similar. What is really disappointing is the indoor part but in general everything that is related to walk. I was surprised that the steps were missing in the activity report, then I saw that there are external apps on Garmin IQ, ''steps to fit'', to fix it but I still found it very strange. In my opinion this is related to the sore point concerning the recording of indoor activities. Indoor walking is completely unreliable, the distance is always very underestimated, it is okay that it is not possible to calculate it accurately but since the watch calculates the steps quite well it would not be difficult to make a simple estimate of the number of steps per stride, where you enter the stride, is not precise but at least it remains in the order of magnitude. The suggested solution is to move your arms like a puppet to hope to have an underestimate that is at least acceptable (20%, 30% less). But the thing could still be fine, you give up knowing the distance but you do indoor activities by evaluating the steps per minute, this should be accurate information since the watch calculates the steps, this would still be useful information to understand
the intensity of the training. The serious thing is that even that data is completely unreliable, looking at the graph of the steps for minute I see a jumps function, stopped-in motion, at certain points it seems almost a delta function as if all the movement were concentrated in a few moments. This is inadmissible, it is possible to make an apparently very accurate app and not be able to implement a regular approximation of the data. In this way any indoor walking activity is completely useless to record. Finally, returning to the initial question of the steps I noticed the most amazing thing, that is also the average of the steps per minute is wrong. Having added the total steps in the report thanks to "step to fit" I saw that the average cadence reported is completely wrong, yet it is not difficult to calculate if the device calculates the steps and the time of the session. So the doubt is that the steps are not reported just to avoid any bugs being noticed. In conclusion I can say that I am very disappointed with how the indoor issue is handled but also partially with outdoor walking since the data of the steps per minute are not reliable. I would be happy if someone could contradict me and tell me that it is a bug of my device that I could make me change but I am afraid, having read the forum for hours that it is a more extensive problem. There are also problems with the sleep report but that is another matter and I hope it will improve over time.
