Vector 3 on mtb and shoes?

Has anyone fitted V3 on their mtb? Is this advisable which shoes would you recommend?

$1k pedals on an mtb? I smash my pedals into rocks, roots and stumps way to often. Pedals are just too vulnerable on an mtb, IMHO.
