Right Sensor Missing

Hello!

Does anyone know what can generate this message "right sensor missing"?

Occurred with my Vector3 during use. Just the 8th training with my Vector3.

My workout ran out of energy information on my right leg for several minutes (45').
  • Hi t_smit ,

Thank you very much your help so far.
Could you please take a look on the attached file that was my ride today? Do you see the root cause of the "Right sensor missing" message? I got only few.

Status: no battery replaced nor opened the battery door. Exactly the same connection (phone connected to Garmin edge 1030). I got only 2-3 "right sensor is missing" message but after a while both power meter was working again. Also I observed when I was continuously pedaling sometimes the cadence was 0.

    Thank you.

  • avuille you might try to replace the batteries. Your left side is still reporting OK but your right side is not staying alive long enough to report a battery voltage.

This has already been tested as said (with a side switch of batteries and caps). Still the same error.

That being said, I have tried tonight this process: https://support.garmin.com/fr-CH/?faq=ph1MWBYk3V8gj8TSaoWiN7

The error message actually disappears and I have the power measures back (tried 60sec on my home trainer). I'll test it further during an outdoor ride this weekend and will keep you posted.

  • Zoli There are multiple right side resets in the file you posted. You should probably have a look at the right side battery compartment.

t_smit Thank you. Yesterday there were more "right sensor is missing" message. Also I observed the PCO data was present for a while and I did not get power data. (As far as I noticed.)

    - How do you decode the .fit file? Is there any free tool or web based software to check the content by myself and see resets? I attached the most recent ride yesterday. There were more right sensor is missing message.
I do not want to overload you with this, I only would like a working Vector 3. Recently I heard there is a 3rd generation battery door. Moreover. I read somewhere garmin released a re-designed internal part. This is why I'd like to understand what is wrong with my Vector3.
    - By the way warranty. Is it 1 year or 2 years? I read 2 years on garmin.com while country Garmin told 1 year.
    - Last but not least. I attached 2 files.
---> 3428845354.fit - ride yesterday (will be in the next message). URL: https://file.io/gWtadz
---> 2889447861.fit - a ride right after (following day) I replaced the battery door that I got from Garmin in 2018 July. URL: https://file.io/zahlNU

Do you see resets in this second (2889447861) file?

Update after today's ride: I have not checked the battery yet. I prefer to change one thing in the same time. So nothing changed.
Instead I did the following. As soon as I seen the "right sensor is missing" message I unclip my right shoe from pedal then connect again in 1-2 seconds. Then suddenly the power meter was back to life. Actually the PCO data was presented for a while however there was no power data. Today ride is here: https://file.io/MHqBYO

FYI: It looks like no longer possible to upload any file to Garmin forum. I uploaded the files to file.io.
  • As promised last week, I did test the procedure of reset mentionned by Garmin here: https://support.garmin.com/fr-CH/?faq=ph1MWBYk3V8gj8TSaoWiN7

After 2 consecutive rides of 3 hours each this weekend, my issue is now settled. No single "right pedal missing" message appeared. Hope it will help some of you in the same case.

There are some tools available that decode .fit files, but none that interpret the Vector state messages.

In January, an updated battery contact was released. It is available as part of the pedal service kit that also includes a replacement battery circuit board. The Garmin Customer Service center in your region can supply a pair of these (service kit S00-01030-00) for you since it appears you are having battery contact problems.

Your first two files gave a 404 error. The last one had many right side resets.

t_smit Thank you for the advice. Unfortunately there is a missunderstanding as Garmin in my region think there is only 1 year warranty for Vector 3 however on webpage I read two years.
Is there any way to escallate this confusion to the right level? (Central Europe )

Also I uploaded the file which is the output of the training on the next day after I replaced the battery doors (both sides). This would show if the battery door issue was present right after the door replacement or not.

(it may be possible somebody who read this forum simple downloaded it as this place is one time only file store)
  • The 02/21 file also showed right side resets.

You should contact Garmin Customer Service in your region about getting replacement battery cap kits, and to further resolve the right/left pedal pairing situation.

This forum is primarily for users to exchange information and experiences, and even though some technical staff (such as myself) monitor the traffic here and give some suggestions, we do not have the ability to directly get you new parts or to otherwise do customer-service type stuff.

Contacted, waited (and waited), got the new pedals (?!?!?!) ... and "Right power sensor missing" out of the box.

  • t_smit  Hi t_smit,

Thanks for your help so far.

May I ask you to check the attached workout if you see connection drops, low battery or any strange that would explain the "low battery" or "right sensor is missing" ot "power peaks"?

Problem:  At 5:19:23 you can see a 1192 watt peak. Also despite of the both replaced cover+battery board I can see "right sensor is missing" (however once in each 2  weeks so far). Battery has just been replaced after "battery level low" signal, despite the connect.garmin.com data which is showing the battery "good".

Also if the computer is not switched off and bicycle (pedals) are not in use, why the statistics is showing "standing" position?

Thank you for your help in advance!

  • you ever tried to clean the doors inside with alcohol, afterwards i put baby oil on a kitchen paper, where i rub the batteries on both sides, so there is really a liitle bit of oil on it, everytime i do this, problems like this are gone till the next battery change
