Scale not registering - Body Fat %, Water %, Muscle Mass & Bone Mass

Numbers wrong..

And by the way, the calculated numbers while they worked, were not correct.
It calculated a bodyfat percentage of 1.6% when my BMI was 19.5, and I was no where near that number. Between 4 and 6% would be a realistic number, so somethings wrong.

Garmin is actively investigating this issue. We appreciate your patience in the meantime and this thread will be updated when more information is available.

Same to me 4%!! when my nutritionist scale was 10.8% and my "old" Tanita BC-1000 from 9.5 to 10.5....really acceptable tollerance, but the smart index scale is far far away to be consider "reliable" and consistent :(

Well, since loosing two pounds and having my BMI return to 19, my scale stopped registering the additional numbers and now again only returns an X.
It really does seem to be related to certain body compositions as my scale worked when I was heavier, and it continues to work for my wife.

Garmin - would you care to comment on this/fix this with a firmware update?

I've had a response from Garmin support, who are going to look at my data. So hopefully they can sort it out before my 30 no quibble returns policy expires....The clocks ticking

I was about to pull the trigger on one of these tonight, but I'm glad I read this thread first.

Think I'll hold off until I hear an official word from Garmin that they have fixed the issues and updated the firmware.

Until then I'll stick to my 'old' but trusty Tanita BC1000.

I can now almost definately confirm it's a body stature/composition issue. Everytime my BMI in the morning gets to 19 og below it stops registering the additional data. If I then eat my breakfast and drink some water (Thus gaining 300 - 400 grams) I can jump on the weight and it registers all the values again. The magic number seems to be a BMI og 19 for me. With the 300 grams my BMI goes to 19.1 og 19.2 and it starts working. I have had at least 10 other persons on the weight and none of them so slim and fit as myself, and they all weigh in correctly and with fairly reasonable figures for the estimated body fat% and so forth.

My own estimated numbers are still off (As i'm positively certain I do NOT have bodyfat percentage of 1.6 ;-))

So it seems its having trouble handeling the "athlete" like body composition.

BTW: I too have been contacted by garmin and they are looking at my data as well. So it seems they are working on it.

I was all excited about the new device, but none of the composition measurements work for me. :(

Do people believe it is truly related to BMI? I am also a pretty slim guy.

It is both frustrating and dissapointing. I am in the process of switching all of my training 'equipment' over to Garmin hardware so that I can run it all from one platform and have my data in the same place. For me to invest in this hardware it has to be accurate and reliable. Neither of these seem to be the case with the Index. The same goes for other Garmin devices. Some flagship models don't even have the same features of lesser models. And so on... For Garmin to boast about selling >1m devices they really ought to be putting their money where their mouth is. Take Apple for example. Their hardware just works. End of. This can hardly be said for Garmin devices. I'd really like to see what Garmin could produce with a bit of competition. Look at the resources that were put into developing the Vector and Fenix systems. The same can't be said for their other devices, sadly.

C'mon Garmin, sort it out! Sadly, I won't be investing any more of my 'hard earned' until they do.

Just get big X for additional data

I just bought the scale today. Connected easily, no problems. Weight is accurate (59.1kg) and it says BMI 19.5. Uploads data fine. But like you guys I get a big X for body fat and all additional readings! I tried it about 10 times today, all barefoot and it updated the firmware after the first couple but made no difference.

Well, since i'm starting my roadbike season now my firness is getting better and my weight permanently starts hovering around a 18.8 BMI i'm permanently missing the added/calculated numbers.
Not that it matters much as they where severely off target anyway.

But I do hope garmin would speak up and hopefully present a fix soon. It's a way to expensive scale when most features are not working.
