No Stroke & Efficiency in *.TCX file

Hi all,

being not the greatest swimmer on this planet, but enjoy this very much as an add-on to running, I use the Garmin Swim since July 2013. Overall I am very impressed. Really good recognition of what I call freestyle and my more classic breaststroke swimming. Love to see the statistics after some 50 length in a 25 m pool. Used the Suunto Ambit 2, which was a disaster in terms of recognition.

Anyway, I would like to find the swim style, stroke number and the "efficiency" as a function of time or pool length number within the tcx export. All I find is "speed", which in fact is the pool length swimming time, but of course can be simply used for calculating speed (mi/h) or pace (min/mi). Swim style, strokes and efficiency are not exported with tcx and that's what I would like to obtain for my own further statistics.

You can see a swim style related stroke and efficiency as a graph in GC and summary values in the GC statistics, though. So, it's in the system, but not applied in the export file.

Any chance to see this in a future update ?

Happy swimming,

Road_and_Trackrunner.
  • Hi,

Don't know if it will help, but while on the activity page, you can click on the 'Intervals' button upper right of the page. On the Intervals page, scroll down, and you'll find an 'Export to csv' link. You can open this csv file in Excel, and you'll find swim style, stroke count and Swolf for each length.
  • Hi Erunnermtl,

thanks a lot, fitting advice and this is the trick ! Think I did this in summer, but didn't get the details. Once again, kind thanks for your assistance.

Usually do 50 lengths, alternating between FS 2 x 25 m and BS 2 x 25 m, and practically ALL lengths correctly recognized. Although my turn is more like gymnastics and my freestyle kind of emergency agitation :o. Always try to avoid swimming interruptions during pool traffic, mostly works, I even swim bends at times.

    Stay afloat, Erunnermtl.

    Best,

  • Hi,

This feature seems to have disappeared with the new Garmin Connect. In the new format for Garmin Connect, I can only export the "split time," which does not contain any stroke information or lap/interval information. Is there a way to expert all workouts lap information to Excel? I really want to compare my 100 meter free times over the last couple of months, and there doesn't seem to be a way to do that, anymore. (there never was an easy way to do it, as you had to export each workout and fix the time, but at least it could be done.)

    thanks, bryan.
  • go to the activity page, click on the gear icon top left of the page, and select 'Export Splits to CSV'

Thank you. I found that feature, but it (very deceptively I might add &) exports only the set data and not the actual lap/split data or even stroke data. I did submit the question to Garmin support, and I'll see if they have an answer.

In the modern view, I can manually expand each set to show the individual laps and then manually highlight/select it all and copy it to excel, but that is a real pain.

I guess in general, Garmin Connect knows my 100 free times for the last six months, and it would be nice if there was an easy way to compare them.

    thanks.
  • FWIW: I noticed that the swim style data (free, backstroke, etc) is no longer being presented. It's not available in new or old design, nor is it available in exported csv files. VERY annoying.
