Edit Data in Garmin Connect

@ Garmin support: I am very dissapointed about the lack of editing function on garmin connect. The Garmin Swim produces some bad data, so a lot of functions (eg averages, min/max pace) are useless. I will return my watch if there is no chance to edit my data in near future.
  • Frustrated Too....

All I need is an easy "merge laps" and "change stroke type" - that would make the swim perfect. As it is now, I get about 1-2 bad laps per workout, which does not affect averages too much, but of course, "best pace" is worthless if a lap gets double counted.

I agree 100 percent with this posting.

AGSWIMS...please please please beg the Garmin Connect team to work on this issue. Appreciate your feedback in the forums!
  • This is known to be the top priority for swimming on Garmin Connect. Unfortunately it is not trivial to implement. There's been begging...

+1 for ability to edit data.

My other Garmin devices (FR210, Edge 705) are great but the Garmin Swim is very frustrating when it miscounts lengths.
Also means that I am not going to be buying a 910XT until things improve.

I rarely get miscounts. When I do I can usually attribute it to either having to stop mid length, bumping my arm against someone or the lane line. Sometimes when I expect it to have miscounted after bumping something I've been surprised that it's still on track. There's really little that's obvious about what sort of event triggers the miscounts when they do happen.

For me the issues are stroke detection, but, as I've said before, that's not a huge issue if the times and length counts are accurate.

  • Hi,

if you have a PC then I suggest that you take a look at the Fit File Repair Tool (http://fitfilerepairtool.info). This tool enables you to split and merge lengths, to correct stroke style and many other data. After your corrections you can export the file or upload it to Garmin Connect directly. The tool is not freeware, but if your only need it to edit your swim files then send me a message before you order and you will get a 50% discount.

Thanks for creating this tool, but I would say that the price point is still too high even with the 50% discount.

Regardless of how many hours you spent on the tool, only at $10 would I consider buying it. Otherwise, it's just too expensive for simply correcting the occasional Garmin Swim mistake. I would be very tempted to use http://garmin.kiesewetter.nl/ and then write some Google Spreadsheet Javascript code to automatically perform the split/merge and correct stroke styles. And I'd give my code to the public for free.

In Garmin Connect I only see the option to export to TCX data format. Regardless of any tool to edit the data, the export to TCX dataformat is insufficient. When simply exporting a swim-activity and import it again (without editing) the activity is not recognized as a swim-activity anymore (with swimming-specific data analysis), but only reports some general information and a time versus speed graph.

    Hello Ernest,

Your problem at attempting to edit these Swim files, which are in FIT format, highlights the PITA that these files are.
I do not swim but I have edited several Swim files and found the Fit File Repair Tool to be an excellent editor.
I broke the file into smaller sections and changed the pool length and the type of stroke and the Tool recalc'd all the swim data for each piece.
Then it saved the new files in FIT format and they loaded into Connect perfectly with all the graphs etc.

Attach a swim file here that you want edited and I will show you how good this FFRT is.
Spell out what you want because I am not a swimmer and cannot guess what you want. :)

    Hi Datezz,

I appreciate your offer to edit the data for me and I will have a look at FFRT in due time, but can you please explain first how to write-out FIT data instead of TCX? Because TCX can never work (see my explanation in my original post).

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello Ernest,

Sorry, I know nothing about FIT files or how MS Access works to edit FIT files.
I am a FFRT user and have found the program to be an excellent tool.
The FFRT displays the FIT file in Excel format so you can see every piece of the recorded data in columns and rows.
Then you can edit almost any piece or big chunks, add or delete laps, etc. whatever you want.
