Forerunner 935 for track workouts?

So I just bought a Forerunner 935 after using the 235 for a few years, and I'm very happy with upgrade. However, I don't understand what it's doing when I do hard intervals on a track. I've encountered the following behavior:

- The colors become inverted during the interval (I'm OK with this, I suppose?)

- The screen returns to the "main" running screen with my total distance, rather than staying on the lap screen (I'm not OK with this)

I have turned off Auto-scroll so that should not be the issue. I do not have any Strava Live Segments for this particular track.

Does anyone know what is going on?
  • You turned on auto climb and it's detecting you're climbing and switching screens.

Ah, yes that seems likely. I will disable that next time I do a track workout. Thank you!
  • Hopefully, that's the fix. However, if that is the case, it seems odd that the watch detects climb during HIIT workout on a presumably flat track. Perhaps worth reporting to Garmin.
  • colors inverting usually means you are tracking a segment and are "behind" on it...
  • I created an outdoor track app, and use that. Autolap turned off (I trigger manually depending on the session) and have specific fields on different screens that I use depending on the session. Current pace, lap pace, lap distance, lap time, last lap time etc. I dont care about overall time when in a track session, or total distance. I have a screen that is time based and one that is pace based. I have auto climb turned off, and don't use live strava segments at all.
