APAC vs ROW Firmware

Former Member
Former Member
I recently bought a 935 in Japan.
Very happy about the purchase, except one thing: I discovered that it is an APAC (Asia Pacific) version and I found no way to replace the firmware with the ROW (Rest of World) version.
Garmin support (via chat) told me that this is not possible, but I really find this hard to believe.
Has anyone had the same issue and found a way to solve it?
Thanks

  • So there's (perhaps) a way to downgrade the APAC watch to a ROW version. And then try to update the ROW
  • I've never heard of anyone converting any Garmin watch from an APAC to a ROW device (or v/v). It comes up on about every devices at some time.
  • Thanks for the answers Jim.
It's just that the seller sold me an APAC version and I'm living in Spain. I'd like to translate the watch but it also seems better the ROW version (or has better support thinking about firmware updates). Last firmware versions have also some improvements with the sensors

I have tried to flash the 2.90 beta version without sucess.
  • Why would you get an APAC version in Spain? I think you should contact the seller as you got the wrong device.
  • I know, but I have used the watch and despiste of being looking perfect, I don't know If I can return it now.
If I could flash the ROW firmware, everything would be fine (since the watch is ok). It's just a matter of having the right language

About the Fenix 5, you can convert the watch between regions: https://forums.garmin.com/forum/on-t...o-apac-version but this method seems that it is not working on an updated Forerunner 935.

Could anyone share the GARMIN|\Text files for the Forerunner 935?

    Thanks Jim

Edit: I have found a tool http://turboccc.wikispaces.com/RGN_Tool that lets you change the HWID in the GCDUPDATE files . It can also convert the files to rgn, and the rgn files can be flashed using Garmin Updater 2.8.0 . It can also extract .bin files where you can patch the HWID.

Anyway, seams feasable but I find this a bit risky. I think I'm leaving now, since I'm not sure if this will break my watch.
  • I have edited the GCDUPDATE from the 6.83 beta with RGN_Tool to change the HWID from 2691 to 2833. The watch asks for the update, so I can flash the ROW version in APAC. I haven't flashed since I'm not sure it will work, but there's a way to flash all beta versions in APAC watches.

Thank you, dreamer. That is very interesting. Is there anybody success on flash OS in Garmin935 to different version?
Why dose Garmin just allow their customer to install additional language?

    Hello people
I bought my Garmin Edge 200 on a Chinese website and it came with the TWN version. I downloaded the multilingual version and put the renamed file for gupdate in the Garmin folder but the upgrade process never progresses. Any idea if I'm doing it wrong? I would like to put Portuguese language. Thank you
  • I don't think anyone's has worked out how to put a ROW firmware on a APAC device, you might be out of luck. Buying Garmin devices online from China is a bit of a minefield because they sell both APAC and ROW devices here. Its not so bad buying retail in HK as the APAC device packaging is clearly marked as Asian version.

Any chance the seller can swap?
