Unusual battery percentage readings

I am generally happy with the battery life my Forerunner 735XT, bought about three weeks ago, is giving, but it has some strange features. I Let it charge to a displayed 100%, but within an hour of normal wearing, the percentage has fallen to about 92%. After that, it falls far more slowly, until I decide to charge it again. Any ideas what that apparent fast discharge is about?

And this evening, the displayed % an hour ago was 72%. It’s now risen to 78%. I’ve not done anything to the watch in that last hour, which I’ve basically spent reading.

I’m puzzled. Anyone else seeing features like this? Thanks.

  • What app do you use for checking battery status? I have a mixed experience, so I recommend to rely only on native reading while charging I have also experienced erratic readings esp. just after high consumption, ie. after activity Does your device last 100 to 0 a reasonable time whatever the actual readings are or has it changed recently too?

  • Native screen when charging, though I use a third party watch face (the “No Frills” one) in daily use, which shows battery level. Consumption has been steady in the time I’ve had the watch, and overall battery life is excellent compared to other sports watches I’ve owned. But, as I posted, the first 10% goes quickly, no matter what my activity level. And the percentage going back up again, as I described, is something I’ve not seen before.

  • I think mine is quite similar I stopped to care too much about every % of battery since I found it does not behave linear Also I found that when it shows 100% during charging you have to wait cca 15 to 30 minutes to avoid immediate drop to 95% or so However Li-ion batteries are not supposed to charge 100% so the question is if it is a good practice In general I check battery status infrequently and re-charge when it drops under 30% to keep it always ready for my activities Of course before any race I fully re-charge

  • And the percentage going back up again, as I described, is something I’ve not seen before.

I believe this started with one of the firmware updates, namely the one which included a fix for premature shutdown in low temperatures. Sometimes when comming back from a cold environment I see a small increase in remaining battery power after the watch warms up a little.
