Cross Country Skyiing sport profile - is it possible ?

Is it possible to define a Cross Country Skyiing profile in the 735XT ? When I tried to build a customized sport profile, and used that one, it didn;t measure at all the distance, based on the internal Accelometer. Is there a way to have it working ? (calories and other parameters were recorded correctly, but not the distance). Thank you.
  • Where are you going skiing that an accelerometer is of any use whatsoever? (You really don't want it counting steps; those aren't steps.) The 735XT has GPS, so turn it on and just use that to record distance.

Garmin actually has an XC Ski app. It amazes me that Garmin doesn't release the source and make the all of their apps publicly available for all of their watches, but so far as I know they don't. You might want to check the ConnectIQ app store to see if someone has written something for cross country skiing.

Thank you for the reply. In matter of fact I meant to an indoor skyiing, hence, the GPS can not work there :-( The same is with the accelometer
  • Well, for indoor skiing on a machine that doesn't go anywhere, like indoor cycling on a trainer or indoor running on a treadmill, the speed and distance are zero. Any number the machine might give is sheer fantasy, so you might as well just make one up if you want one. It's more important to pay attention to the things that can be measured (like heart rate).

If you've ever skied outdoors, then you know that skiing is all about the glide, so every stride (classical or skate) goes a varying distance depending on incline, snow condition, wind, etc. Counting strides will tell you nothing about the distance travelled.
