Strap question

I am debating about which strap to buy. I do cardio, cycling and swimming. I am tempted to buy the TRI strap. How does it do in the pool ? I am asking that is because if they sell a swim only strap, there should be a reason.
Thanks.
  • From Rainmaker article:

"First up is the HRM-TRI & HRM-SWIM units. Remember the HRM-TRI is designed for open-water use, cycling, and running. The reason it’s not designed for pool usage is that it doesn’t have enough ‘stick’ to hold to your body when you push off the wall. This is much less an issue for woman in a one-piece bathing suit than men. For me, using the HRM-TRI in a pool lasted about 2 lengths."
  • Indeed, I had read that but wanted feedback from a user. I do not push off the wall as I mostly breast strokes. So I was wondering if the TRI would be enough. If a user has hands on experience, that would be great.
    Thanks.
  • You might be OK with the HRM-Tri for pool swimming in that case.

That said for general swim metrics (especially correct detection of lengths) to work you generally do need to have a good push off/glide from the wall with breast stroke.

The basic idea is that you have both an HRM-Tri and an HRM-Swim. Whilst you could use the latter for anything other than pool swimming it has rather a wide band and so not as comfortable.

The HRM-Swim lacks features like ground contact and so on. I think I may have to get the bundle..
  • The HRM-Swim is also supposed to hold up better against constant use in chlorine pools.
