software version 3.30 feedback

My 645 (non-music) froze on the first run after the update to 3.30. See attached error-log.
I was using the back to starting point function (straight line) while this happened. The watch never froze before,
  • So far only the sensor hub update has installed on my 645 and GCM isn't showing the new FW doing a background transfer via BT. I tried using the Web Updater on my ancient Mac Mini (it's too old to run Garmin Express) and get server error messages. Anybody else not getting the update yet?

One thing that you can try is to connect the device to a Windows computer and see if it is recognized by the computer as being plugged in. If so you can open the Primary Drive>Garmin Folder>NewFiles and delete any files in that folder.

If that doesn't work we would need to speak with you directly to investigate this. You can contact our Product Support teams through our chat, email, or phone channels for direct assistance.

I did what you'd said with no result. I did contact Product Support teams through email and am looking forward to your answer.

Yeah turns out my update was only the sensor hub as well and i'm still on the old firmware. What region are you in (i'm AU)? I'm happy to wait though given some of the comments here.
  • I'm in the US and still no joy on the update.

R_Tellis , if you are not able to get the update though Garmin Express, the update will slowly download through Garmin Connect Mobile. It will try once a day, typically overnight, and if there is an interruption in connection then it can take longer than usual to download the file to the watch through Bluetooth.

The update system that is used to phase out this software does not offer the updates through Webupdater. Do you happen to have access to a different computer that you could run Garmin Express on to quickly download the file?
  • The only other computer I use is at work where I'm not allowed to install my own software, and being a defense contractor anything that looks like a USB drive is ignored when plugged in. Thankfully I can still charge off it though.

I'd think that after the roll-out was 100% Web Updater could be enabled but that's another discussion. Also find it odd that it will only try once a day to download via BT when it knows there's an update available, but I guess that's why I've been prompted to install an update on race mornings before.

The reason why it only tries once a day is to prevent increased battery drain on the phone/watch. If the update is trying to be downloaded constantly we would see increased battery drain.
  • My sleep was wrong last night, and it usually close to correct. I went to be a little after 11pm, but the watch says I didn't fall asleep until 2am. I have no idea if this was related to the upgrade or not, but it seemed accurate until now.
  • I've received the watch last friday and did three runs with it; congrats on new HR-measuring, it really works as it should. BUT: GPS is VERY wonky (DC is absolutely right in his review), the watch is far off very often, even more as the crappy FR620. In today's run the watch was off for more than 20m at the end of the run (https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/2763388607). Normally the watches have some problems at the beginning of the workout, but the 645 had the problems at the end. In the beginning the watch lost its GPS fix twice (after running approx. 1.3km, clear sky, no trees). The watch seems to be made for female hands btw. Small knobs, difficult to handle...
For me the 645 is hardly usable, will give it back to the retailer...

As reported in another thread on Blue Triangle of Death, the update seems to have made a perfectly working watch almost unusable, as watch now gets Blue Triangle as soon as you hit the 1 mile marker & audio gives out message about lap time, cutting off GPS & bluetooth link to headphones. Plus it no longer links to Garmin Connect app on iPhone....
