Ignorant Advanced Workout Question

I'm asking, because I just don't know how it works exactly, which means I'm curious and want to know.

I'm eyeballing the 645 but I have a question about the Advanced Workouts. I use GC daily to track my runs, and afterwards I do a cardio workout involving push-ups, sit-ups, dips, pull ups, 8 count body builders, jumping jacks and flutter kicks then a long plank to finish it all up. I have these all listed in my Workouts on GC and I use my phone to see which is my next exercise/reps.

Do the newer watches download these exercises and reps to my phone and count them for me, telling me my next exercise when it counts my reps for me? I think it would be difficult for a watch to count my push ups, or dips, but maybe it could with jumping jacks. I've looked on the Garmin website to find the answer, but I'm coming up empty.

From the Forum, I draw the conclusion that Advanced Workouts are more geared toward running workouts and meeting interval/sprint goals.

Am I asking my question clearly enough, or am I talking in circles?

I honestly don't know about rep counts and exercises with Advanced Workouts, but the "strength" activity counts the reps and can determine the exercise being performed quite well. If your rep count is off, you can edit it on the watch before doing the next exercise. You can also enter the weight if weight training or leave it at "0" and it will record as a body weight exercise. As for determining which exercise you are performing, it does fairly well and this can always be edited following the workout. For example, if I'm doing dumbbell bench presses, the watch always detects bench press and I edit at the completion for my own records. It will detect and count push ups too. I hope this helps you out some.
  • You can use advanced workouts with the strength app. After you finish a set it will tell you the exercise, number of reps, and weight for the next set.

i obviously don't know how well the 645 will count reps but I've been pleasantly surprised how well the VA3 does. Strangely even with push-ups and chin-ups.
  • Thank you everyone. After I posted this, I did more searches and found some pretty cool YouTube videos showing a weight training exercise with another Forerunner watch. Very cool. I'm excited to see how this plays out.

I do not know what "Advanced Workouts" are since not using most of Garmin software or services, but here is how the "Rep counting" was described when first introduced in the Fenix 5[s,X] series.

Observe that the beta text included cardio information - download the workout construction to the watch since there is no native 'rep' function in the 'Cardio Activity'.
