Sleep "metrics" in Garmin Products

Hello,

I've used 2 Garmin products from now (7 months) and my interest in "fitness tracker" technology is growing.

I've seen that Polar has recently released their Ignite smartwatch with the ability to show if the user has had a good night. Suunto also uses a "Sleep Score", so does Withings Products (at least in the app).

Firstbeat has the "Sleep Score Index" indicator, but it's not used in Garmin products.

In order to tell that "you had a good night", there is the Body battery index (100 = restful night, >7h sleep = good amount of sleep) and the stress level (low = restful night).

But there is no indicator to give you advice, nor telling clearly if you slept well.

Seeing "REM", "light sleep", "deep sleep" in Garmin Connect is cool, but it doesn't tell anything about the "quality" of your sleep. But at least it seems accurate : www.garmin.com/.../

What do you think ?

Seeing a score of, for example "80" instead of "1h39 REM, 1h15 Deep Sleep, 3h40 light sleep" is better !

  • I'm curious too. The reports are fun to see, but I wonder what they actually mean and how they were figured. I lay awake for a half hour before getting up this morning, and the report indicated I was in a deep sleep.
