The manual for the 230/235 says that it's operating temperature is -20 - 60C (-4 - 140F) . However I've had my watch just shut down a number of times where it's been sub-zero (celcius), but well above -20C.
First time it was -12C, battery was about 40%. I was running with my watch fully exposed on my wrist (wearing a wind-shell jacket and gloves). It died around 47 minutes into the run (which was only 55 minutes, and I didn't notice it stopped until I got home).
The second time it was a balmy -5C. It was about 1h 15 minutes into my run. Again, watch was exposed on my wrist. I noticed pretty soon after it shut down, I powered it on and it powered up fine (battery way 19%). I finished the rest of my run with the watch under my jacket cuff (meaning I had to move it out of the way anytime I want to see stats on the watch, but it recorded everything fine).
I've done a few more runs in the -5C - -15C range, but out of fear of shutdowns I've run with my garmin under my jacket (just a thin layer of plastic, but it will hold in heat from my body) and not had issue.
Is my 235 just super sensitive, or are other people finding their 235's don't actually work in the listed operating temperatures? I guess another possible issue could be the colder temperatures have co-incided with the 7.10 firmware. Is 7.10 causing random shutdowns only while recording activities for others?
(Please post label of F or C when talking about temperatures).
