Built-in accelerometer calibration

Hello, a question about accelerometer calibration on Forerunner 235.
The official documentation states that the built-in accelerometer is automatically calibrated after some outdoor running sessions with GPS activated.
On the device you can also manually set a custom step lenght for both running and walking instead of using the default values.
My question: is the accelerometer calibration affected in some way by the step lenght possibly set on the device or it is based only on the metrics automatically collected during outdoor sessions with GPS activated? What is the reasonable number of outdoor sessions that I have to do in order to get an accurate calibration?
Thank you in advance
Massimo
  • The way it is calibrated is it measures your distance covered and the total steps then calculates your stride length for that recorded pace. Obviously if you run at a near constant pace you'll get a more accurate determination of your stride length. If you make several runs or walks at varying paces while keeping the pace for each constant then the watch will then build up a Table of your stride lengths for a variety of paces. Yeah, your stride length will vary with pace and getting that table built quickly will get you more accurate estimates more quickly.
  • I realize this was posted a while ago, but I'm new to the 235. I was unaware of this aspect (auto stride length calculation). I also did not know this could be done (manually adjust stride).

I'll have to read the manual. But, before I can, I'm curious, can one see the stride lengths that were calculated?

Thank you and Happy New Year,

    Eric

  • I have not seen any way to look at the stride lengths that are used in the lookup chart/table.  Every activity with GPS that you do will have a average cadence and average stride length.   Also in the Lap section it shows stride length per lap also.  I find for treadmilling that at my everyday easy/recovery GPS pace.... indoors it is accurate.  However if running up hill or at a fast pace, my pace is quite a bit off.   But easy enough to edit the distance and add elevation gain on the App.

  • Thank you @NickNM, that was quite helpful!

    Hello Guys,

Recently I reset my 235 and this stride length became a big.confusion for me. Run in the treadmill is not anymore.accurate. For some paces works well, but to higher velocities the pace in watch is completly different.

Maybe  returning to run outdoor this "table" can be reconfigured. But I need to make trainning with different paces
