Hello guys.
Is it possible to get, and see Vo2 max, Recovery Time and Training Efficient only with the Optical Heart Rate in the 235?
DC Rainmaker say no, it's only possible with the chest strap. This is true?

It worked for me with the OHR.

As for the accuracy of that data with the OHR, thats another story! I don't use the OHR any more only the chest strap due to my personal frustrations with it.

Why are you so frustrated with OHR?

For me optical HR is totally unreliable during running and cycling. Sometimes it's okay, but it can lock onto cadence anytime when running or report random nonsense when cycling. So I also use a chest strap now for running and just turn HR off if I use the watch for cycling (though I usually use an Edge for cycling anyway). I gave up on the optical HR for running when I did a super-slow run with my partner where I had cadence lock (actual HR was ~90bpm, cadence-lock HR ~170bpm) and the VO2max calc (which I find vaguely interesting because I know what my VO2max actually is from a lab test) was thrown out by the duff data.

If you use a chest strap you know it'll work pretty much always. Optical HR at very best only works most of the time, which really isn't good enough.

No that is not true, all those stats are available when using the optical heart rate.

I think DC Rainmacker did not a good reviw at 235 OHR.
In depp reviw it says:"Thus, it’s probably the most important thing I tested in the FR235, and where I spent the majority of my time digging into results."
And concludes that OHR has several problems.
In this post he says:" My single run with the unit proved inconclusive..."

    Long time in test ... a single run ... !!! ???

    DC rainmaker - FR 230 & 235 In-Depth Review

    Hi,

you are looking at an outdated review, as it even says in the first few lines of the article. The in-depth review with final production units is here: https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2015/11/garmin-fr230-fr235-review.html

And of course, his review is based on the firmware version that was released at the time of the review (3.10)...

My own experience with the optical HR rate is mixed, but I found it to be at least as accurate as the chest straps from Garmin and Polar I tried. This is because chest straps don't work too well for me and I really don't like wearing one during a long run.

    Regards,
    Christian.
