Cadence of FR 235 trustable?

I tested today Wahoo TICKR X sensor on my run and see difference in cadence values. But I'm not sure which device I can trust more.

Garmin FR 235:
averrage cadence: 168 spm
max cadence: 182 spm

Wahoo TICKR X:
averrage cadence: 182 spm
max cadence: 203 spm

Whole run: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1119556956

Which experience do you have with cadence measurement on FR 235? Any idea which device I can trust more?

So far my 235 cadence has been just about spot on in my comparison tests. Tested vs. my Timex Global Trainer w/FP on multiple runs and all were within +/-2 SPM for max and average. I've used my Ant+ FP with my 235 on some runs but don't see any drastic difference without it over the same courses (of course different days/different run conditions).

I will say that I have never experienced any cadence lock with my 235 or other weird cadence readings and it seems to pickup short halts/stops very well. So take it what you will..my experience would lead me to trust my 235 (for cadence at least...HR...that's another story ).
  • Looking at your run on GC, a few previous ones with your 220 and the pace and length of your runs then almost certain that the Garmin devices are showing it correctly.

It is a huge difference in cadence anyway. If the Wahoo is correct then it you would imply you have quite a fast cadence but very short stride length.
In fact there is such a difference it should be possible just to count your steps for a minute or so if you want to reassure yourself.
  • Yeah until now it was plausible what FR 235 shows. I was just a little bit irritated by the difference.

Some runs are with higher cadence but in this case the pace is higher too.

I've run with a metronome and found the average Garmin cadence was spot on in most cases.

Except that, on my run this evening, my FR235 managed to pick up an outlier of a cadence value of 236 spm somehow (as it is apt to do once every three or four runs) again. That annoys the hell out of me.
  • I typically do a manual count once or twice on every run, and my 230 is always spot-on.
  • Thanks to all for conformation. In addition I will count next time my steps to double check cadence.
