Heart rate flat line (not drop out) during run

I'm having problems with my watch tracking my heart rate just fine for the first few minutes of my run, then just flatlining for the rest of the run. For example, one day it tracked just fine but then thought my heart rate was 127bpm for the remaining 40 min of the run (I can guarantee it wasn't). Then, even after ending the activity, the garmin continues to display that as my HR for some time. During the flatline, the lights on the sensor are off.

Any idea what is happening here?

That's certainly not normal. There are a number of threads taking about people whose non-activity HR locks to a particular value (e.g. 72BPM). Perhaps it's related? Have a look there and see what they say.

I know Garmin are aware of this particular problem and a fix is in the works (assuming that's it). Also try going for some more runs. Perhaps it's just an anomaly that you don't see again.
