Found a significant bug:

Yesterday, I logged a 13 mile walk as a "run" using my 235. I logged it as a run, as there is no hike or walk activity selection. I used my footpod and Garmin ANT+ Chest strap, as these are far more accurate than the watch (they need to fix this). I recorded just shy of 13 miles and 31,000 steps, and was dual gps'ing with GPS and GLONAS. All was well and good until this morning when I looked at my connect sync and noticed that it claims 30 miles and doubled the calories. It appears to me that it is taking the total steps and adding them into the formula after already logging them in the activity. This is incorrect. I noticed that my assumed active calories was also roughly doubled. This seems like it can be easily addressed, and MUST be. Has anybody else noticed this. Also, why no "hike" or "walk" activities?

It's massively frustrating. I know they updated Garmin connect the other day for Android. My step distances seem believable but the calories seem way too high still.

And still indoor cycling activity is adding thousands of steps!
Can anyone else confirm they get this. Surely its not just me??

I use an indoor bike trainer daily. Yesterday was the first day it added steps for me. I'm hoping it was just a fluke, but it sounds as if this is an ongoing problem with your device? I normally bike at a steady pace and gradually increase my speed. Yesterday was also the first time I did intervals on my trainer. That can possibly be what caused it.

Seems like its a GC thing. Steps are fine on the watch. The uploaded activity has about 10k steps or exactly twice the sumStrokes value in the activity record. I.e. it is assuming two steps per pedal revolution/cadence which I believe is an accepted conversion. Strange you have only had it once. I get it all of the time. Does your trainer have a cadence sensor?

On another note when just now checking the watch I notice the watch has recorded two HR readings about 15 mins apart with a value of about 120 bpm which is about twice what it should be as I am sitting down typing this! No doubt I will be awarded extra calories for this. Not is this a symptom of the low sampling rate or the OHR sensor just getting stuck on a particular value?

There are 125 posts in this thread. Is Garmin doing anything about this calorie/step bug?

They keep saying they are 'aware of it and are working on it'. They've said that here on the forum and also to many people via support channels. This is their standard reply for all issues and you can either hope their statement is true or just accept that they are full of crap.

With all the new watches they keep releasing, there is no way they can maintain developer resources to support existing (even relatively new) products.

Their current product strategy is going to ultimately fail. Their reputation for quality is going down and they're going to be known for having many mediocre products rather than a manageable number of well designed, well executed and properly targeted products.

My step calories and distance appear believable today; 5300 steps 2.6 mile and 200 odd calories. The only thing I have not done is any formal exercise today. Is it possible it's related?

I spoke too soon, 6000 steps and 500 calories. The firmware update had made no difference... (too me anyway).

My data is always okay on days when I only walk and do not have a run. The longer the run, the more the data seems off. On a 6-mile run, sometimes, it's hard to tell. On 17 or more, it's a total mess.

Just now updating to new firmware.

Also, spent 1.5 hours yesterday on phone with Garmin. I zipped up my files and gave it to their engineers. I think they may be working on it. Fingers crossed.
