Activity to recode cross-fit training and steps

I recently bought the 235 and I am happy with it so far.
Yesterday though, I had a cross fit training session in the gym and to record it I used the "other" option in available activities.

Issue I found after I finished was that steps taken during the activity (around 1 hour) weren't properly accounted in the steps of the day so the Goal value was not updated properly still showing something like 86% (from setting I had the GPS turned off obviously).

Two points I would like you help/suggestion:
- What is the best way/profile to record gym trainings?
- What profile should I use in order to record and account properly steps etc?

Thanks in advance
  • I've tried only once to use "other" to record a walk. I noticed then that GC doesnt report step infos (spm, stride lenght, estimated distance) for that activity. Hence I used run indoors to record walks... (however steps should still be counted for activity tracking i guess)

I suppose there is no way to add new activities of this kind? I mean Gym or Cross Fit etc during which for example steps and HR should be counted but no GPS

Actually, there is a way to add new types - Connect IQ.

CIQ allows things like new watchfaces and new data fields for existing activities, as well as new types of activities, and widgets.

The store (apps.garmin.com) has stuff for all the CIQ devices including the fr230/235/630.

You can check the following forum for info on many of the things:

Sometimes, an app exists but hasn't been ported to the fr230/235/630 yet.

and if you don't see what you want, you can see if anyone is interested in building it at:

  • You can just use "run indoors" which counts steps and estimates distance. Even though GPS is turned off for this activity it still records GPS, this is a bug. After the workout you can change the type in Garmn Connect. That's what I do for my tennis sessions.

Be aware for crossfit you probably want to wear a chest strap, HR is highly inaccurate if flexing the wrist is involved.
