SRAM E-tap will not connect to Garmin Edge 820

Just got a brand new E-tap installed.
I have tried to pair my edge 820 to it, but the 820 will not find it at all.
Heres what Ive tried so far.
1) Updating all firmware on the garmin and the E-tap.
2)Removing all Coonect IQ apps
3)Pairing while riding.
4)Resetting the pairing for the entire E-tap set up.
5)Removing batteries and putting them back on the E-tap
6)Using the "shifting" sub group under sensors and also trying "All sensors"

Still no luck. Any other ideas?
  • I did not know that there was a software update available for the eTap.

Try removing the front and rear eTap batteries for 5 minutes or more to allow the system to reset. Put the batteries back and shift both the front and rear.

Spin the cranks to keep the eTap awake and hold the 820 near the rear derailleur as that is where the ANT transmitter is located. Do a search for "shifting".

I know you said you have updated the firmware on the Edge, but can you state what version it is on?

I have a Garmin 820 and ETAP I am running a 42 by 11-28 on a cross bike. My Garmin 820 finds the Etap but it will not show what gear my rear is in? It just shows 0/0 and never what gear it is in. I have the latest version on my Garmin. I have tried taking the battery out for 5 minutes and it finds it but never shows what gear Im in. Any Ideas what wrong?
  • Have you shifted the front derailleur since putting the rear battery back in? The rear is the master and talks to the Edge, but is caches the position of the front derailleur. If it has no value then you will get 0/0. To populate the caches you need to shift the front.

I do not have a front derailleur I am running a 1x11 setup. 42 front with 11-28 rear cassette.
  • That might be a bug in the SRAM software. Let me reach out to SRAM.
  • I looked at the data that SRAM is sending with a configuration like users. It sends the position of the rear derailleur and and an unknown position for the front. I have passed this on to Garmin. I suspect that the code on the 820 is looking for known positions for both derailleurs and without that it reports nothing.
