Loading Europe Maps on Edge 820 With North America Maps for Trip

I have an Edge 820 with the built-in North American maps. I'm going to Europe this summer for a trip, and was wondering how to load Europe maps on it and still be able to go back to the North American. I've used Openstreetmaps on my Edge 810 in the past, and this is my backup option. Thanks for the help!

  • Yes, it will work. It works just like the 810 (any units with maps starting with the 800).

Download a small map and try it.

You can pan to the location of the other map and zoom into it.

    You'll see "lots of detail".

I would suggest using the free Openstreetmap (OSM) maps rather than buying maps.

(Note that the maps that come with the 820 are OSM based.)
  • Seconded, I'm in Europe with a Euro820 and generally I use an OSM map from bbbike.org in preference to the Garmin official map

Go to http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/. Download maps for the areas you want and put them on your unit.
