edge remote suggestion

Anyone knows how to submit suggestions directly to Garmin?

Since the screen sensitivity is so terrible, I got myself a remote... only to realize the button customization is terribly limited and does not allow to fully control the device... :(

basically what I want to suggest would be to let users map the remote's buttons to emulate the additional buttons we can find on the edge 520. It's only a few buttons, that could easily be mapped as such (for example)

up : lap
down : function button
select : long press lap
back : long press function button
light : screen button
change screen : long press screen button

I'm ok to keep using the physical buttons on the device to mark laps, start/stop activity, switch device on/off if that allows me to control the device when I have gloves on/when it's cold/raining.

I REALLY regret not getting the 520 instead of the 820 now... the touch screen is terrible and the mapping capabilities close to useless compared to what I get from my phone. only keeping the 820 now because I still have some hope in Garmin fixing things and still like the routing better than text turn by turn prompts, but terribly missing physical buttons now...!
  • I have a 520 and I bought the remote so I could change screens and activate the backlight without having to move my hand too far.

This is how I have mine set up:
Action button short press: Activate back light
Action button long press: Map screen

I'm happy with the functionality of the other buttons:
Page key short press: Next screen
Page key long press: Previous screen
    Lap button: Mark lap

I don't use the Lap button, I prefer to let the unit take auto laps every 5km.

Doing more with the remote whilst moving would be distracting. I think it would be better to be stopped if you want to operate the computer properly.

It would be nice to have a few more options for the Action button e.g. Cancel/Stop Segment etc.
I've put a suggestion in to Garmin support.

yes... now it's morning, I realize how silly this was...

This is a request that only makes sense for people who have issues with the touch screen AND a remote, Garmin probably would better fix the touch screen instead :P

I wrote it out of frustration from half a dozen minutes trying to change some settings on my 820 in the cold and under a mild rain yesterday (and so many other rides on previous days): even when stopped on the side of the road and without gloves, I would need to tap my screen like a madman just in order to get my taps register... sometimes in the wrong place, sometimes with a lag, most of the time not at all... complete nightmare (crazy thing is it works perfectly once I'm at home and my hands are warm) when you realize that the remote has 3 extra buttons that are simply sitting there in such conditions, you really wish there were some way you could use them !

IF the screen was working as it should (or at least somehow satisfactorily, like on my edge touring) I would be happy with the way the remote works now (and I'm pretty happy with it, most days, when all I need to do is change page and switch backlight on)

Really surprised to see that on the 520 there are TWO buttons you can customize though... on the 820, the only one I can change is the action button... :( oh well...

Sorry, I don't understand, it's the same Remote for all devices.
  • There is only one button that can be customised for the 520 - the Action button. It can do two different things depending on how long you press the button for.

It's the same for the 820.
  • To answer OP question, the only way to submit feedback to Garmin is through their contact us link. "We really read it" I was told by the customer service rep. It seems to be the OP is trying to find a work-around to a product issue with the 820: the touch sensitive screen. I wish Garmin would just bring back the left/right buttons to enable an alternative to swiping.
