Garmin GSC-10 Speed/Kadence problems

Hi,

I've been having some trouble with the Edge 520 and the GSC-10 Speed/Kadence sensor not displaying/sending the correct values.

I've been writing with Garmin support and today I got the answer that it is NOT compatible with the Edge 520 - what????
It have always been the best way of getting speed and cadence from a magnet device and now it's not possible - they are just referring me to the new separate motion detection sensors...

Did any of you try the GSC-10 in conjunction with the Edge 520 and can confirm this?

Best Regards
Thomas
  • The GSC-10 should work.

Could you describe what is wrong with the data you are seeing?
  • I was getting wrong speed indications, like 6-7 km/h reading when I was going around 30 km/h.

It didn't pick up right away that I started after a short stop, and when it did it displayed wrong speed readings again.

It used to work fine on both the edge 510 and forerunner 920XT.

When getting these errors I was wearing the HRM-Run strap and it also malfunctioned displaying HR 63, like mentioned in another post.
After 67 minutes and shortly after again I lost all ANT devices and had to restart the edge 520 to get it to reconnect.
Maybe it is the HRM-Run strap that is the culprit in this error and is making the data from the GSC-10 fail also...

    Best regards
    Thomas.

For the speed problem make sure the magnet is properly aligned. It should be aligned with the line on the speed arm and the gap between the arm and magnet should be 2 to 5 mm.

Seeing the FIT file would be useful if you care to post it.

The activity is here and I think that you are able to get the fit file from it?

It contains the HRM error and the two ANT dropouts. But it doesn't contain errors from the GSC-10, because I disabled it after a short ride to the training starting point and restarted the ride here...

The magnet is mounted correctly and was working just fine on the FR920XT.

I have a GSC-10 on my bike which is working fine with my Edge 500 but refuses to connect with my Edge 520.

    Any advice?

Garmin Support have confirmed that the GSC-10 is NOT compatible with Edge 520.

But do you use HRM-Run HR Belt together with Edge 520 at the same time as the GSC-10 ?
  • That statement about not supporting the GSC-10 does not sound correct. The 520 supports a combined speed/cadence sensor. Let me see what happens if I use the ANT+ simulator.
  • It works fine with the ANT+ simulation of a speed/cadence sensor. I will see if I can find someone with a GSC-10 to do a quick field test.

My GSC-10 paired up right away, and works perfectly with my 520, no issues at all. I manually set my wheel circumference after doing rollout tests (not sure if this matters). I am also using the legacy (rubber) Garmin HRM strap, which has also been rock solid.

I don't use the cadence function as I use Vector S pedals, but the speed sensor works flawlessly. (I had the GSC-10 before Vector, otherwise I would have just used a speed sensor alone)
  • I was also able to pair the GSC-10 without any issues.

What Garmin support team told you it was incompatible?
