Elapsed time on live segments

Hi

I am trying to figure out if there is a way to display the elapsed time for the segment on the live segment screen. The best I can work out is to use "Time - lap" and to remember to press the Lap button at the start of the segment. However, this means that I can't really use the Lap feature for anything else. I also need to remember to hit the button.
I was a little surprised that there is no elapsed time data field for segments. "Time Ahead" is great but on longer segments where you know ever twist and turn I find it more useful to know my elapsed time in order to guage my effort.

Thanks
Niall
  • I'm not sure if you can display elapsed time but I personally find that 'Distance to Go' is very useful accompanying stat to 'Time Ahead'

Using these two together you therefore know where you are currently positioned and gives you an idea of when you can start increasing the pace.
Once I hit 1km to go, I can give it everything I have got.

I'm not really sure what elapsed time would tell you. You could always hit the lap button when you start the segment and display current lap time.
  • Same opinion here.  I resorted to the lap trick too, but it's really a dumb hack.  Seems like elapsed time would be the most common field for this feature.

Agreed 100% - I'd really like to know how I'm doing toward a goal. 100

  • I'd also like (and expect) to be able to see the elapsed time for the segment effort. I *know* the device has that value handy. It needs it to calculate how much you are ahead or behind your best position for the segment. So... why not let us just display the damn value already? (FYI, I am using the Garmin Edge 130.)

  • You are using Edge 130. First off, why are you commenting here then since it obvious you dunno what 520 is capable of. And secondly, 520 DOES show how much you are ahead or behind your best position for the segment. Emphasis on your best position meaning Personal Record.

However this topic is about Elapsed time on live segments regardless of PR or KOM.

  • First off, I pointed out that I'm using the 130 to let Garmin know that users of other models -- not just the 520 -- care about this missing feature. And, secondly, the 130 also already shows how far you are ahead/behind of your best position. Not sure why you focused on something that I already acknowledged was there. As you noted at the end, yes, this topic *is* about the missing Elapsed Time data. It's missing, and it shouldn't be. Carry on.
