Course navigation only for first part of course

Did my first ride with an Egde 520 plus today, using a course created on Garmin Connect of about 50km. Strangely enough the navigation instructions only worked the first 16km (or so), with the edge displaying a finish point and distance to that point. Viewing the route on the map on the device shows a blue pin at the same location. The route itself does not have any waypoints.

What’s happening? Why doesn’t the device give navigation instructions for the complete course? Using firmware 2.60 with the pre-installed Garmin Cycle Map EU 2017.10.

Exactly the same issue on the Edge 820: https://forums.garmin.com/forum/into-sports/cycling/edge-820-aa/1362119-edge-only-calculates-route-until-halfway. Seems to be some real bug.

Looks like the same issue indeed. A shame really, it makes the device unusable for the one feature it is meant to improve on, navigation. In fact I decided to return the device...

I've just done one 40 mile ride last week, planned in Strava routes and selected via the pre-loaded Strava Routes Connect IQ route. Mine too stopped alerting the directions after about 10-14 miles or so I think. It had worked brilliantly up to the point.

It DID alert when I missed a turn and wanted to route me back to the course, and again towards the end when I deliberately went of course.And at that poimt it did then seem to be directing me normally again to the finish All the while on the map screen it seemed to have a "west on XXXXX road" stuck on screen which would have been from the outset of my ride.

I thought it worked really well while it was working, I like not having to have the map screen on and the directions taking over the data screen as and when needed, do I hope they can fix this.

Has Garmin officially commented on this significant issue? The 520 plus was released specifically for Navigation. If it is intermittent or only partially functioning this is a MAJOR ISSUE and fault.

Mine seems to have behaved itself since that first ride, including during a 100 mile sportive last weekend. I wonder if the trick is to make sure it's been able to do the calculations through to 100% before moving off.
