Garmin 520 shutting down

After installing an update yesterday via Garmin Express, (I was already at 12.50, and the update was to do with maps and some other stuff), my 520 has been shutting down mid ride at approx 25 minutes. The device stops recording and shuts off, no warning.
I've done Factory Rest as advised by Garmin and no joy, same problem.
Anybody any ideas on how to fix this glitch as restarting my Garmin every 25 minutes is not ideal.

Yesterday I had the same frustrating issue. Every 20min automatic shut down. I have on my bike also the vector 3s. Any solution to the problem?

Mine has started doing the exact same thing. Shuts down every 20-25 minutes while out riding. Have updated software, have done a factory reset, no luck, still the same problem. I hope they can fix it fast, makes my edge almost unusable and is incredibly frustrating when riding.

I also had the same problem arise yesterday... 520 shutting down pretty much exactly every 25 minutes. I’m also running the Vector 3 pedals. Only changes I made yesterday were updating the Connect mobile app (which I can’t see causing the issue) and resetting the pedals.
  • Hello there, I also have the same problem since yesterday. Two rides, and shutting down at regular intervalls. Between those two rides, I did a factory reset, no changes. I have tried to monitor it, and it also happens to me every 25min. I also have the Vector 3S. I have sent an email to Garmin, let's wait and see.

    Hi everyone,
I have the same issue too, and I also use Vector 3s...
Hope this will soon be fixed
  • My partner is having the same problem, started om Friday, every 5-6 mls the 520 shuts down, does not lose the ride though, also using Vector 3's (well connected but not bloody working - AGAIN) It's been said loads of times on here but Garmin don't seem interested, the total cost of V3's and a 520 is c £1000 - and for many of us THEY ARE RUBBISH - we had the same with V1's shutting down too - all down to software
  • Same here, but my ride lasted almost 2 hours and after a short stop (normaly automatically ride paused and when start riding the recording start also) I saw that the screen was blank. Pushing the on of button didn't work (though battery level should be enough to start)
At home connected to powersupply and could start the unit, saving the ride (start charching was at 60%)
Tried if it was the pause "action", started recording and put device on table so it entered pause mode, after an hour it was still "on" and could start recording ride again without a hitch. So problem unknown.
  • Plus one on this issue same setup Edge 520 and Vector 3s, which were paired on Friday and then the issue started on a 4 hour ride on Sunday. My wife has Edge 520 (same software level) and Vector 2s with no issue, therefore this has to be Software releated to Vector 3. Come on Garmin the amount of money spent this should not be beta testing on consumers!
  • For those of you who have Vector 3 please see the public beta post listed here for a resolution to this issue.

Changes made from version 12.50 to 12.53:
    • Fixed an issue that could cause a crash when connected to Vector 3 or Varia UT.
    • Fixed an issue that could cause Bluetooth to periodically drop out when connected to a Varia Radar.
