520 stuck in Factory Reset mode

My Garmin Edge 520 came up into Factory Reset mode, even though I did not press any buttons except power. But it will not execute the Factory Reset, because no buttons will work. It just stays with "Cancel" selected, but you can't use up/down buttons on left to choose Okay. None of the other buttons work either to choose Cancel or back out of the menu. Trying the hard reset by pressing the two bottom lap and start keys does not work either, and simply takes the unit back into the Factory Reset screen. It's as if the left-side down button is stuck and brings up that mode no matter what on power up. Connecting to the USB does not help. I can get access to mass storage, inspect all files (there are no updates or update configuration files or New Files), even do a Sync or download a Connect IQ data field, but the unit will not power up EXCEPT in Factory Reset. I have read all available threads for these two reset methods, but the classic methods do not work, because I am stuck in one of the reset modes and can't get out.

So I think it has a frozen left-side down button, that even the two bottom hard reset buttons (Lap and Start) will not override. The unit is almost new and worked fine up till this point, no drops or other problems, maybe some rain riding, but it's supposed to be fine with that.

I'm a Connect IQ developer and engineer with 35 years experience, including 13 years with Garmin devices. This one has me stumped.
