Since the last update my Garmin Edge 520 dosen't save my rides anymore. After a ride the garmin asks me if i want to save the ride and i say yes but later there is no .fit file...
But in the Strava segments i can see my latest time i rode it
Is there way to get back the rides?
Will a complete reset of the unite solve the problem?
  • This will wipe everything off the Edge.

Using a Windows PC right click on the Edge and select "Format", de-select the "Quick Format" option and leave the file system as "FAT32".

After the storage has been re-formatted disconnect the Edge from the PC and let it restart. This will rebuild the file system on the Edge and add most of the required files back.

There are a few files that do not get added back. You can get those on the unit by unzipping this file at the top/root of the Edge file system. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/33919776/Edge%20520/Edge520_FS.zip

Did the above help in resolving this issue?

Mine is having similar issues. The ride file is there directly after saving on the unit but when i connect it with the cable to the PC somehow the file gets deleted from my history. There is enough space on the unit so that shouldn't be the problem. It seems like the unit itself is somehow incorrectly saving files when moving to mass storage or something.

Directly after saving my latest ride i checked history, and the ride was there. Also my totals were correctly updated because this was the first ride after a factory reset. So this was all handled correctly. Then i shut down the unit, took a shower and afterwards connected the unit to my laptop. When i did this the .fit file was not present on the device. It appears somehow the file gets incorrectly handled when converting to mass storage?

I did a search on the unit with file recovery software immediately and weirdly enough the software did manage to detect a .fit file in the acitivities folder which was unrecoverable. There was also an eventlog file detected but that was also unrecoverable. Very weird behaviour. I tried recovering both files anyway, the crash log and the activity itself. Both as expected were total gibberish.

I have had the unit now for a month and it worked flawlessly the first couple of weeks and now half the rides i do get lost. I have so far updated the firmware to 6,20 and did a factory reset. Now i will try rebuilding the file system according to the above instruction to see if that solves it.

If anyone else has any tips that could aid in resolving this would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise i will have to contact garmin to see about a replacement unit or something...
