Display Backlight as function of Day vs Night?

Is there any way to get the display backlight to stay on when the display goes into night mode? Clearly the 520 knows day from night, so surely the developers must know that keeping the backlight on at night might be useful... I get tired of hitting the brightness button twice every couple of minutes to keep turning the light back on... is there an easier way that I don't know about?
  • I just leave the backlight on and turn the brightness down. By daylight it turns off and plenty of battery left.
  • followup backlight question

Am I understanding correctly that if I select always on for the display it will turn off automatically in the daytime? where's that setting?

I don't remember exactly as I set it up so long ago. I went through the manual and I think it's the color mode and sets the color automatically depending on time of day. All I know is that I keep the back light on as I start many rides early in the morning when it is dark, then it changed automatically.
  • There isn't
But I set my brightness to 10% and ON all the time since I ride a lot in the night. In the day it doesn't bother me, and it seems it doesn't affect the battery life at all.

good idea! Thanks. I'll try the 10% always on and see how that goes!
  • Yes good ideas but it's just annoying that Garmin chose to make the backlight do the complete opposite to what any normal thinking would dictate. We know that the backlight is a torch, to shine when it's dark and to go off when it's light. In auto mode it literally fights the sun!!?

Hi DJ - I will try the same arrangement with the 10%... Sounds reasonable and i always fear the battery draining too soon. Thanks all for the tips...
