connect app: "your device does not support courses"

I have and Edge 130, it works normally, I sync with my Garmin Connect account over bluetooth using the Connect app.
So, now I'm trying to upload one of the courses I've had for a long time in my account.
I go to "more" -> "Courses" -> select a course -> tap the icon at the top right with the 'arrow pointing to smartphone' -> choose "Edge 130" from the listed devices
and I get
"Your device does not support courses."

Wait, what?
What am I doing wrong?

This is not going to help you, but I tried this process and the course downloaded to my 130.

Try rebooting the phone and 130 to see if that helps.

  • I've had the same problem using gcm on my iPhone iOS (the second to most recent version as of now.). Went old skool and connected it to the PC. Logged into Garmin Connect using the browser and clicked on "upload to device" or something like that. Then used Garmin Express to upload to 130. Whew!

Using iOS 11.4, I checked for updates and noticed a new version of the Garmin Connect app was available, installed it. It's now at version 4.7.
Too bad the version history page for the iOS app is completely useless, for every single update it says the same: "constantly working to improve your experience, blabla" without mentioning what was improved, fixed, etc.

When I get home tonight I'll try again with my Edge 130 turned on and connected using Bluetooth.
  • It works now! I was able to sync a course from the Garmin Connect mobile app on my iPhone to the Edge 130 over bluetooth without issues. Maybe it's the new version of the app, maybe it's due to the fact that the Edge was turned on and connected while trying to send the course, instead of trying to sync at a later moment. I have multiple Garmin devices in my account, some of which do not support courses (Forerunner running watches), maybe that's where the issue came from.
